Funny thing is, as prohibitionist as the Arabs are, they smoke cigarettes like there's no tomorrow. That's my experience, anyway. I think it's more due to Islam than they're culture (even though Islam is embedded into their culture). And smoking water pipes has been something they've done for ever.

Thats because a lot more foreign people live in Qatar, seeing as how the native people there are only 500k citizens. Perhaps the most carefree with alcohol is Dubai and Abu-Dhabi (Only two states of the UAE) So can Arabians buy stuff there? Yeah, they can. They've done all the prohibited things out of 'being kewl' Damn... why do i feel out of the loop?

It has nothing to do with islam, its more of a cultural thing. Infact, anything that harms your body in anyway, is prohibited in islam. The smoking thing (Both cigs and 'water pipes' lol) are infact prohibited, but its something that has snuck by culturally. People can't let go of it now. Personally, i don't do either of those, and i keep my distance from those who do. I even take the backdoor to my college building because the main entrance guarantees lung cancer!

You know more than me. Just saying what I experienced living in Qatar. Btw is there a clear hierarchy in Saudi too?

In other Gulf countries, in Qatar, i guess they're there for the foreigners to feel accepted in someway, and not force the cultural belief upon them. As for me liking it, i think this matter goes beyond my personal preference. I believe that alcohol is disallowed for a reason, and that reason shows today, as i'd like to keep my kidneys (and brain cells)

If not, then from a cultural standpoint (Which is based off of a religious belief) it goes like this: God>The Land> The King. But people have prioritized the king over the land, which is stupid, as the king won't last forever, unlike the land.

But do you others should by law be prohibited to use it, even though they would want to?

Opps, probably should have been more clear in my question. I was thinking more in hierarchy between different races of people. Arabians are pretty much top dog in Qatar, while white people came 2nd, and then Asians and black people etc.

Despite that, a large group of people usually travel outside the region to commit such an act.

If it were up to you would you also ban smoking?

I don't know about Qatar, but in here, from a religious and a legal standpoint, there is no difference between any race, even between muslims and non-muslims. Through 19 years, i haven't seen a serious racial problem arise in here. I'd say people are laid back and highly welcoming of foreigners.

If it were up to you would you also ban smoking? Honestly yes, as i can't stand the smell. As soon as i someone in the vicinity is smoking i get a headache. I even raised hell once when my brother was staying for awhile and he started smoking. I asked him nicely twice but he wouldn't listen. A friend of mine told me he smokes weed, or was it a hash? i can't remember, but i've been real cautious about him since then. Not to be hateful towards smokers, but get that stuff away from me!

Because that was definitely not the case in Qatar. Arabians would demand all sorts of crazy stuff like going first in a line, avoid blame in traffic incidents, are the only ones eligible to be a police officer and be ineligible for paying electrical bills and misc. taxes.

Isn't hash and weed the same thing? Anyways, sorry to disagree with you, but I don't think banning something just because you don't like is good enough of a reason. I don't see the point in weed, but seeing as it is less damaging than alcohol and it is becoming legal in a lot of places, I can't argue on it's ban. I just think we need to have clear rules on it before it is unbanned however.
