You can edit your display name in the profile settings, if you prefer, you know, proper formatting. Also hide a lot of NOT VIDEO GAMES information from your user display.

Sweet! The way I introduce myself (or re-introduce myself, in this case!) to a forum is to read through as much of the old content as I can and see how things went from here to there, what was talked about, what people think on certain subjects, etc. I did the same thing at the original CGR when I started there. And it ended up spurring up more discussion because, not only is there something new to contribute, it gives the appearance (correctly) that there is actual activity in the thread and certain forums are not otherwise filled with "dead" discussions. And CGR's had some quite dead forums there at different points. But that's the great thing about a discussion board, in that people can discuss things 5 minutes after something was posted, 5 hours, 5 days, 5 months or 5 years. I try explaining this to people at other forums over the years who don't get the difference between a discussion board and a chat room and think that people reviving older threads are simply spamming them rather than actually reading to see whether people are actually contributing to the discussion. I tended not to stick around at those places too long. Then again, a few of the forums tended to not stick around either.  |
