As promised, I'm digging this up after finally playing thoroughly through the single player campaign of The Phantom Pain.
I'm assuming anyone coming into this topic knows all about it so I'm not going to bother with spoiler warnings or covers.
Consider yourself forewarned!
I'm of a somewhat different opinion to the Bosman video, and presumably at odds with Khador's position as well.
While it may be true that the game got shorthanded by the end of chapter 1 with the repeat missions, I personally found the game a more or less complete & satisfactory package - As there was a similar case of map & mission reuse for Peace Walker in unlocking its final ending. Going by that I wasn't much put off by them, and actually really enjoyed the 'Subsistence' missions that added a bit of flair from the older games while making me feel clever for completing them with an A or S rank going in empty handed.
The excision of a planned Mission 51 was regrettable I agree, but from the content that was already there in the game I don't find it being too much of a detrimental loss, especially with the game's existing scope - it would be understandable if it were offered later as DLC or with a premium repackaging.
But like Cervantes, I liked the twist. This makes TPP the only Metal Gear where the player created character gets to be the hero - how kewl is that??
I went into it with the mindset that it was going to be an open ended ending, because that was what it was supposed to be - Big Boss continuing to build his Outer Heaven army until he is finally taken down by Solid 'David' Snake in the very first Metal Gear game - so it doesn't feel unfinished or incomplete to me.
And furthermore it gives greater significance to Ground Zeroes now - (The real) Big Boss's final field operation.
The game itself is superb. Anybody wonder where I've been lately in absence from the forum, this is where (plus my PC was out for a while)...
I played through every last mission and side op, and left it at 79% completion (initially unintentional, but when it got to that number decided might as well leave it at that). All that's left being to replay the main missions again to complete secondary/tertiary objectives.
I achieved the all ops complete about 3 weeks ago, but still check in regularly for the daily rewards and to send the men on combat deployments for GMP and resources.
The Final Countdown (on endless repeat) & Stun arm Lv.4 lightning for the Win! (makes the game almost too easy though...)
The main questions that TPP attempted to explain was how Big Boss survived both encounters with Solid Snake in the original 3rd Gen Metal Gears.
I suppose it did a reasonably good job of answering them by showing that
But whatever happened to Metal Gear Zeke? It was never given a mention in the tapes as far as I remember. The last that was spoken of it was in Ground Zeroes in that it was hidden in the ocean before the supposed UN inspection of the old MSF base, then never heard from again...
Maybe used as the design-base and evolved into the Sahelanthropus?...
I was also impressed and appreciated how they payed attention to make Eli look like a mini-Miller in homage to the twist in MGS1.
"Did you like my sunglasses...?"
(Ha-haaahh....)
While I'm at it might as well reply to some previous posts too...
@khador & scipioafricanus
I personally don't think either Big Boss ever truly becomes evil. He was (they were) heavily influenced and affected by the actions of The (original) Boss where she played the sacrificial villain in order to bring about a positive change - so I believe that's what he (they) attempted to do on a grander scale with nuclear stockpiling.
scipioafricanus & Cervantes
Huey's a poor guy - feel sorry for him. It was never proven for sure that he sold them out (the old MSF base or the new DD's plague resurgence), or that he killed Strangelove... Yet he's given the guilty until proven innocent treatment and ultimately disgracefully exiled... He even built new gears for them...
@khador & Cervantes
Oh Quiet...
Oh, sweet goodbye. Punished 'Venom' Snake's one & only love interest...
At least she gets to live on.
And she's NOT Sniper Wolf...
Plus:
Anyone figured out what Big Boss' intentions were when he sent Snake to Outer Heaven in Metal Gear 1?
I'd like to hear your theories!
I'll tell you mine if you tell yours!
Now all rise for our national anthem...
Bestest song ever.

I suppose it did a reasonably good job of answering them by showing that
- He survived the first because it wasn't him in Outer Heaven.
- And he survived being burned alive in the second by receiving the same parasitic treatment Quiet did.
