I'm wondering if this will happen completely the way it is intended. The Sherman Anti-Trust Act could become an issue since this is a relatively huge chunk of the entertainment business being merged into the Disney name. Just this morning, I read an article stating that this could take up to a year for the government's approval. Thank goodness The Almighty Government is here to protect us from Disney's tyranny.

Heh...I agree with you. However, I wonder if they really will allow this deal. It is a massive merger, and they have denied companies in the past.

If General Electric and Comcast were able to do it, I'm sure it will be fine, maybe they get a few extra fees here and there for the officials, but it should be OK.

Oh, don't get me started on Disney. They've done WAY more harm than good for the animation scene. They've completely monopolized what could've potentially been a great artistic medium (referring to the american animation industry).

That question was a bit out of the blue, but my answer is that I don't really have a single favorite animated film. There are a few that I'm really fond of, however: The Triplets of Belleville, The Illusionist, Watership Down to name a few. I'm much more interested in short films & TV shows when it comes to animation, however. Jonny Quest is pretty much the greatest show in existence as far as I'm concerned, and Alexander Petrov's The Mermaid still blows my mind every time I see it. I'm also extremely fond of Richard Williams' A Christmas Carol. But I don't see why I should even bother expressing my opinion if scipioafricanus is just going to keep mocking me every chance he gets.

I don't get the hate with what MeleeMonk said. I happen to agree with him that Disney caused more harm then good to animation. Disney served as the main inspiration for anime, so you can say they caused it.

The best animation we have ever seen comes from Disney and WB.
From Disney particularly the 30s stuff that CupHead was made after. For WB obviously the 50s Looney Toons, and from Hanna Barbera it would be Tom & Jerry. After that animation started to decline.
Anime is beautiful and has some of the best storytelling there is, but it can't compete with the ones I mentioned when it comes to animation and art direction.

If we are talking old, classic Disney, then I'll say they were great and their adaptation of Alice in Wonderland is quite awesome (besides, as stratogustav said, their 30s stuff and experimental films like Fantasia). But they surely took a deep dive in the 90s, making only "Oscar-worthy" animations with those stupid musical numbers and terrible humor - although I still have a soft spot for Alladin. After that, they did a lot of harm to american animation as they monopolized the sector, standardized it, started making almost exclusively subpar home-video sequels and then decided to outright kill their 2d animation division in the early 2000s. During that time, internationally, 2d animation was actually growing and new techniques were making it even better and much more expressive - as MeleeMonk mentioned, The Triplets of Belleville is from that time, as were some of the most outstanding Ghibli's movies (like Chihiro/Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle) and Satoshi Kon's movies (Perfect Blue, Paprika etc.), besides the rise of mature stuff like Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell and Evangelion, so I think the maestro does have a point about Disney doing harm to the animation sector in the US, killing it when it actually was producing some of its best releases internationally. Seriously, if you guys have only watched Disney's 2d animations, you have no f****** idea of how creative other studios were becoming during the 90s/2000s. ...But then, I only agree with that when talking about the 90s/2000s. Before, it would be madness to not recognize all their contributions to animation. It's just that they're a corporation; they look for a profitable formula and go for it until the well dries up, so they look elsewhere for new revenues: they killed their 2d division, tried to create a 3d one, failed, then just bought Pixar; when animation in general was not that profitable, they turned to comic book adaptations and bought Marvel; when Marvel was at risk of oversaturation, they got Star Wars. That's just how they work: you can't expect much deepness and creativity and artistry from Disney; you can expect them to buy a property and make it profitable for a time through a very safe (and somewhat stale) formula.

Treasure Planet is my favorite Disney film except for The Incredibles.
