Ya know, this movie ain’t that bad. Probably my favorite Vin movie but that’s not saying much. Pretty solid overall. I was afraid the Balder suggestion was going to be some kind of art house French “film” with penises or something.

Enjoyed this one as a kid. Haven't seen it in ages though. I like the idea of a planet that never gets any sunlight, and how the fauna had to adapt to that.

I was busting your chops. No one really watches French films with penises unless they’re French.

I love Pitch Black! This was one those movies that defined me when I was getting into films. It's a definitive classic in my book. Great story and universe. Too bad the sequels never got close to this level. It's a great looking film with the night and day cycles. Riddick is a bad ass anti-hero that even got a great movie-tie-in game, Escape from Butcher Bay. cobretti I watch a lot of stuff, not just weird ones. I'm actually the one of my friends who watches the broadest variety of movies. Some extremely weird and experimental ones (like Hunger [The Norwegian one], Natural Born Killers, Mulholland Drive etc.), but also trashy generic Netflix shit like Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill films.

I also like this movie a lot. A few months ago I learned it was based on one of the scrapped scripts for Alien 3, and quite frankly this is much better than Alien 3.
Vin Diesel does a good job establishing the Riddick character, I genuinely like his acting in this one. The concept itself is also very nice, so, all in all, this is a solid action-horror movie.
But the best thing to come out of it are the prequel games. Escape from Butcher Bay is possibly the best movie-based game I've ever played, highly recommended (Assault on Dark Athena is no slouch either).

T'was an ok flim, I guess... (6/10)
This was quite a while back. Wasn't really impressed by it or anything, but definitely more imaginative than the sequel. Never saw the 2013 flim, but this topic has reminded me to look that up now. (thanks)
Tried but could never really get into the games, despite how supposedly good they were. Good graphics for their time though...
Vin Diesel has to be in like the top 20 kewlest actors list or something... (top place must go to Sir Patrick Stewart however... with Mark Hamill following close at 2nd or 3rd)

I think it's still fun if you're in the right state of mind, but there's no denying that it's a much inferior movie in general. I keep forgetting to watch both the 2013 movie and the animation (Dark Fury), which is supposed to be good.
