Sega's remaster and enhancements to Thunder Blade make it shine brighter than it has on any other home console (minus perhaps the Sharp x68000)!

Another great review! They do such a great job porting these Sega games to the 3DS.

Funny you should mention Thunder Blade being a good name for a sword, because I did actually insert a Thunder Blade as rare drop in the Phantasy Star fangame I was working on, along with a Golden Axe...
Can you change the camera angle? I'd play those top down sections at 45 degree angle. Still, the game looks like worth a look.

bawesomeburf - Totally! I know Sega always gets a bad rep for not bringing their old IPs to light for a new generation but I love how they keep games popular and obscure to the forefront but pay homage to them by not trying to change too much. So far, I've yet to purchase a Sega 3D Classic I didn't enjoy! centipede - that is a funny coincidence! Golden Axe, that's too clever! Is that going to be an under-the-table PC release centipede? I'd heard something about a free HD remaster of Phantasy Star II not so long ago. Kinda wish I'd sat down and played it! With regard to the camera angles, that's part of the game's character is that it auto-shifts from overhead to face front then back to overhead for the boss battles. The difference is that in the beginning of the stage, you can actually dive lower and higher to dodge enemy fire. The overhead segments added an extra layer of difficulty but I really do enjoy the variety it brings to the table. The bonus level they added is primarily facing front as that's what Sega and M2 felt the audience wanted the most. It is a great game, I highly recommend it! If you're unsure though, wait for the physical release of the Sega 3D Classics Collection.

I just googled that and found nothing about it, but there's the remakes of 1 and 2 made for the JP Playstation 2, and some guy is trying to remake PSO (Why bother? Just make a spiritual successor and make money off it). When you say under-the-table, you mean at a place like this? In that case, then yep! But it would probably never get released unless I can find a willing sprite artist.

centipede - I got my facts a little backwards, this is a fan translation of a Japanese only PS2 reenvisioning of Phantasy Star 2 (PS2 on PS2, my mind blasted through many a nexus just thinking that!). You can find out more about it right over here!

You can find out more about it right over here! I knew about that. I used to go to Phantasy Star Cave for help with Phantasy Star 2 (could you blame me?). And names, pictures and stats for potential enemies for the fan game.

centipede - sweet! I started playing Phantasy Star II after buying a whole bunch of Sega Genesis games off of Steam but it felt wrong playing it on the computer. Now I hope to one day attain the game with the case and manual; I would like the hint book too but it goes for too much on ebay.

PS 2, 3 an 4 are available on Sega Mega Collection for the PS2 and PSP, and the compilation for the Xbox360/PS3. Also, don't bother with the hint book. Just google some PS2 maps and print them out.

centipede - problem is, I'm a bit of a hardware purist especially with the Genesis. PS2 has a wonderful cover on the case and I want to own the game in good condition as someone at the time might have gotten to experience it. I'm definitely on the lookout to expand my Genesis RPG collections and with the tons of hours plugged in to the Phantasy Star series coupled with the beautiful soundtracks, I look forward to owning them. Good call on the hint book, I've never been much into using a walkthrough. The map would be pretty cool though.
