Now we only need a separate thread for Street Fighter I and V, right MeleeMonk?

Great, on point game by the end of its lifespan. It may be different from what people (specially SF fans) wanted, but it's probably the most important fighting game for the 360/ps3 generation, and it also injected a lot of life into the Street Fighter series.

Now we only need a separate thread for Street Fighter I and V, right MeleeMonk ? Sure, why not? That's what winnersdontusedrugs wanted after all, and I support his decision. I've never played SF4, but I have to say that the additions it made are underwhelming; none of the new characters (save for the turkish oil wrestler) struck me as inspired, and I've heard a rumor that Capcom decided to make at least one of the new characters even more generic before the game was released (originally according to rumor Abel was originally a kid, but his design was changed into an uninspired adult wrestler for whatever reason). I've also heard that the gameplay is much more tailored towards casual gamers compared to SF2 and especially 3. Much of the criticism seems directed at the speed of the game, which is supposedly "too slow", although I can't confirm this because I haven't played it. Honestly the gameplay looks fun to me, but then again I'm not a hardcore SF fan so my opinion shouldn't matter. I remember being so pissed by how much Nintendo slowed down the gameplay of the Smash series with the release of Brawl, so I can totally understand the frustration longtime fans have with the changes made to SF4 and Capcom trying to decease the skill gap with the series. I've heard Street Fighter 5 was much worse, but I haven't played that one, either. I wonder if there will ever be a Street Fighter 6, and what it will play like.

It's how they recruit new members.

The additions to the Street Fighter roster were interesting for the most part, big exception being Rufus. So whoever told you that probably just dislikes Street Fighter. At the same time, Street Fighter 2 wasn't really tailored, it just kinda came out, so it's hard to tell their intentions before it was a thing already. But yes, there are differences that may make players prefer Third Strike over SF4 or SF5. Still, I'd say they're all great games, and in the end being a casual in any of them won't really get anyone far; gotta git really gud!

I never did more than casually play it now and then but always had fun when I did. Still put on USFIV for a few rounds from time to time since I still haven't gotten V yet. Which I might do now that it has arcade mode, pretty important feature when you aren't into playing online competitively.

Keep playing SF4, sfv forces you to buy dlc characters, there is also less defensive options.

I love Street Fighter V combat system and artstyle more, but I love Street Fighter IV nevertheless, I'm still not bored of it and I had been playing it with friends since forever. The game simply doesn't get old, and it is important to mention that Street Fighter IV single handedly revived the FGC to the levels we see it now, there is even an EVO Japan now, and none of that would had ever been possible without Street Fighter IV bringing people back into fighting games.

Will get SFV Arcade Edition eventually which includes the dlc characters but not until it drops in price.

Can't believe it's been pretty much 10 years since this game first came out. I remember seeing some screenshots of this game before it released in a gaming mag and being blown away by how amazing it looked. The visuals don't seem to impress people nowadays, and some of the faces and bodies of characters look weird, but I still appreciate the artistic flair this game managed to pull off in 3D. I've only really played SFIV, AE2012, and Ultra. From what I remember of SFIV the damage of moves was much higher, Sagat was a dickhead, and it had that Backstreet Boys song as an intro. It's been years since I've touched it and I didn't play much online so I really don't have much to say. Going from SFIV to AE 2012 there were a shitload of "new" characters to play with, not to mention all the changes that were made to the old ones, and you also have more than one ultra to choose from. There were alot less scrubs online than there were in SFIV (from what I remember) so I would regularly get destroyed by high-pressure mixup-heavy "vortex" characters. I usually played as Vega, a charge character with not so good wakeup or anti-airs, so this problem was exacerbated (although its not like I started kicking ass when I played as other characters). I managed to perform better against these types of characters as time went on but I think the prevalence of vortex characters is something that soured my AE experience. Not just because I lost, but because these matches seemed so on-rails that even when I won I didn't feel any sense of fun or accomplishment. I still enjoyed AE overall though. In typical Street fighter fashion, the last version of the game was the best one. Vortex is still a thing in this version, but due to changes to offending characters and the addition of more wakeup options it isn't as prevalent as it was in AE. I never used red focus much. Not only does Ultra have a gargantuan roster at this point, but it also manages to balance things enough so that almost every character is viable. This might be my all time favorite entry in the SF series period but it's a tough call. As for the series itself I do have to say I like the focus mechanic more than most SF game-specific mechanics (like parries, alpha counters, etc). I'm not a huge fan of how ulras work in terms of how you're guaranteed a huge move no matter how bad you're playing, but it's really not that offensive of a mechanic at the end of the day. It's a good thing the SFIV series relies on old characters so much, because the new characters it introduced are hit or miss. The design philosophy behind most of them seems to be rushdown oriented. Some newcomers like Hakan and Poison show some promise though. I've also heard that the gameplay is much more tailored towards casual gamers compared to SF2 and especially 3 The implications. And as for what some people said about game speed, I don't think SFIV was ever too slow. It plays a bit slower than some earlier SF games, but for the majority of its lifespan you would usually be taking 5 mixups per second (not to mention SFIV's emphasis on links). SFIV would be unplayable, especially online, if it ran at SSF2T speeds. Even aside from that, I really don't think SFIV was that slow.
