The first four were outstanding. Everything else after that was trash.
The first one also made soft modding an original Xbox possible so the series should get some props just for that.

Ubisoft had many great on-rail shooters on the arcades back then, so no wonder the Splinter Cell games were also popular. I was a fan of the first Rainbow Six on the N64, I remember being good at it too. Tom Clansy stuff has always being big.

I have the first game (pc version) and it is great. It plays quite differently from Metal Gear, as being spotted on is more generally a failure (in MG you have the chance to run, hide again or fight back, while SC might just give you a game over) and the stealth depends more on lights and shadows. I prefer MG's approach, but SC is a great option for people who want to try another style of stealth game.

The 4 first games were easily the best, with ny favorite being Double Agent. The 2 other games just weren't as good. But I would definitely like to see a new Splinter Cell game, but Ubisoft just likes to make shitty copy and paste open worlds these days. But I'm not too optimistic.

Never played this series personally. All I know about it is that it is the Metal Gear wannabe that has outlived Metal Gear... Is the stealth gameplay anything like Deus Ex (Human Revolution / Mankind Divided) ? If it is, I wouldn't mind giving it a go... But as it is it's not in the backlog, and if it's too much of a departure from Metal Gear anyway, I think I'll pass...

leaon79s and Balder - I like to see it as a successor to the PS1 Syphon Filter games, but maybe my memory of those games is betraying me. Don't really remember what I found similar about them.

I liked the first Splinter Cell when it was new but I lost the patience for these types of games. I might like Blacklist since it's more action oriented.

What I like about Blacklist is that one can choose to go all out assault, a combination of stealth and combat where you assassinate everyone or the classic ghosting route where you avoid all enemy interaction.
