2 was the best of the original cast flims no doubt. Not my favorite in overall though. That spot goes to 7 (Generations). It gets a bad rep but honestly it was the first and one of the few Star Trek I watched in theatres... and a great close to the story of Kirk.. the original Kirk anyway... While Spock was denied the hero's end he got in 2 with subsequent fillms, 7 showed what a great man Kirk was when he gave up paradise to help Picard save a planet, and died the Starfleet Captain he was.
Kinda like Luke Skywalker in a sense... Well, Luke's exit was cooler but Kirk's was more dramatic and poignant imo. My rankings of the Trek films go: 7 > 2 > R2 > 3 > 4 > R1 > 6 > 10 > 1 > R3 > 9 > 8 > 5 (R=Reboot)People also don't seem to take kindly to 10 (Nemesis) when it's almost the exact same story as R1, which everybody evidently 'Pines' for. Romulans invading Earth with a big-as space ship and the main character meeting a younger version of himself... Just because of a cast that's younger and more attractive... R2 (Into Darkness) was a worthy rehash of 2, except for the fact that Khan doesn't look like Khan... Robocop's appearence was also a plus. Btw, the hottest chick ever in Trek was Robocop's daughter in R2. Shame she didn't reprise her role for R3... I would rank 6 a bit higher. It was the same director as Khan, and just tells a good story like 2 without getting too preachy. The preachy part was all Gene Roddenberry, just look at 1. He was a great idea man, but a little fact is when TOS was "taken away" from him... it got better.

He ran writers off the show left and right (including long time Trek writers like D.C. Fontana). Hell it was ole Gene who pushed against casting Patrick Stewart as Picard.

I wasn't into Star Trek before, but I was recently given the entire series of Deep Space Nine to watch. I'm really digging it. Great characters, great stories. I'm a Trekkie now.
And if anyone spoils anything past season five, I'm banning you. Dead serious.

Well, I'm a fully converted Star Trek fan, and man, this movie is just awesome, but anyone who's a fan knows that. Here's my review:
"This movie is one of the best comebacks in film history. While Star Trek: The Motion Picture had some fun and interesting parts, it ultimately let down a lot of fans of the original show and Star Trek was essentially dead yet again, however, here comes the sequel. It has a smaller scope and it is a sequel to an episode from the show. This decision is so important because this movie actually feels like what a Star Trek movie should be. Bringing back the original Khan actor was also a big success. This guy is excellent and fit as fuck, the perfect villain counter part to Kirk. He is in many ways the Ahab of Star Trek, leaving behind probable opportunities in order to get his revenge. The theme song is good, but not nearly as good as the one in the first film unfortunately. Everything else though is an improvement. The pacing is excellent, the practical effects are stellar, the bluescreens look perfect, the space ship battles are apart of the best ever put to screen. In many ways they play out like a cat and mouse game or a a submarine battle. All of the characters do feel like they should, and I can never get enough of Dr. McCoy. His banter is just as hilarious here as in the show. Even though I knew what would happen to one of the characters, I did not know it would happen in this movie, and it is one of the best moments in the franchise; just brilliantly put together. This is peak Star Trek along with some of the best episodes of the show." 5/5

1/5 rating description should have been "KHAN!!!!!!!" I saw Wrath of Khan as a kid, but I don't remember much about it. The scene I remember most was the one where these alien slugs are inserted into a person's ears and they slither into his brain or something. Freaked me out! Yeah. That's the only scene I remember. But it's been 15 years since I watched it for the first and last time. So i may appreciate it a lot more now.

Now that we live in a world where dystopian space pigs like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos rule the planet here in 2022, space colonization propaganda like Star Trek ain't right anymore because all it does is glamorize the wrong people. Hell, Star Trek wasn't even right back in the 60s, but especially not nowadays. For example, just today I found a piece of news about Elon Musks space junk crashing into sheep stations in Australia: www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/space-junk-that-fell-on-sheep-farm-was-from-spacex-rocket-agency-confirms/ar-AA10g3bmThis kind of shit isn't the world I want to live in. And yet these controversies are never covered in Star Trek because all the ultra-conservative idiots who write these series want to do is rouse interest in space colonization by glamorizing the shit out of it.

Oh boy, the Colonel here is such a straw man!
Roddenberry was a little too optimistic about human nature, because humans have been the same all throughout history.
What's interesting is, that money does become a thing on Deep Space 9, particularly '(p)latnium'.

What's interesting is, that money does become a thing on Deep Space 9, particularly '(p)latnium'. I think the real takeaway from the Samuel Clemens scene is Deanna Troi has great breasts. Latimum is more of a Ferengi thing than a Federation thing. Sisko never even bothered charging Quark rent. If young Melee is worried about how space travel and colonization is handled in Trek, it’s the Ferengi he should be mad about. I believe they even had a rule of acquisition that related to it.
