Haven't tried this yet, does it have the gameplay where one of the Kongs is on DK's back again like the Wii game?

Amazing work from Retro. Anyone could easily think this game was made in Japan. Most people can easily assume we suck in the West when it comes to platformers, but this game and DKCR prove the exact opposite.

So does DKC 1-3, Commander Keen series, Jazz Jackrabbit 1-2, Sonic Mania, Shovel Knight, Rayman/Origins/Legends, Earthworm Jim 1-2, Prince of Persia, Freedom Planet, Shantae series, Super Meat Boy, Celeste, Aladdin(Genesis), Turrican series, etc so I'm not really sure why people would assume that.

Sonic Mania and SNES Prince Of Persia are great examples of great Western platformers.
Sonic Mania specially. I think it had the right kind of inspiration for a real Sonic game.
I also have Shovel Knight on physical form for the 3DS. I haven't played it yet, but from the looks of it that made me buy it, it seems it will form part of that group.

btfu149 That's what I'd like to know. I know Teddy Kong wasn't happy with the change in formula from DKC SNES to DKC Wii. The difficulty? I can get used to that. I'd definitely pick this up if I had a Wii U. But I don't like how Donkey Kong sounds, sort of, dopey in the intro.

Same boat, DKCR was still decent but I want the old school play style back, the original trilogy are some of my favorite games ever (especially DKC2, its blasphemous it wasn't included on the SNES Classic). Actually watched the review, the 2nd kong is still just on DK's back

I played this a bit on the Wii U. It is a pretty good game. The controls are smooth, and the graphics are great. The platforming is fun too, as it is definitely not as hard as the Wii game. That game just pissed me off I don't know if anything is different in the Switch version though.
By the way, what's wrong with the second Kong on DK's back? I didn't have any issue with it.

btfu149 I haven't played any DK after DK64. I guess the lack of old formula disappoints us old-schoolers.

It just seems gimmicky to me and I have that "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" attitude about it, probably why Double Dash is my least favorite Mario Kart too.

Well, it is a good game, so I would still suggest giving it a go. I understand what you are saying about Double Dash though.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still pick it up when I eventually get a Switch or Wii U and I still liked DKCR too even though I never beat it, got stuck right near the end and rage quit. I just would rather them use the old formula.
