It's still among the best action games from the last generation (one of my favourites all around), but man, does it disappoint when compared to NG Black... That's why I'll give it a 4.

This was one those games I had trouble getting my hands on due to San Andreas. I was probably 14 or something and I tried to buy it at an electronic store, I was denied and I had to get my parents to buy it with me. They weren't too happy when they saw that it was 18 years. Luckily they never saw actual gameplay of me cutting people's limbs off and executing them.

Good gheyme. I won't say it's the best objectively, but I think it's my personal favorite among the modern trilogy. Played and finished all of its existing iterations. (X360 original, Sigma 2, Sigma 2+)PS3 version as Sigma 2 had the blood removed dissapoingtingly, but was restored for the Vita version in Sigma 2+, which is the current go-to for my fix now. Play it right before bed... Prior to this installment, the first modern entry could've almost passed as a prequel to the old trilogy. Some might have preferred that, but legitimizing the modern trilogy as its own entity separate from the classic was the way to go I think. My only complaint is that modern Irene doesn't look like classic Irene anymore... And what's with the 'Sonia' codename... If anything Mizuki from modern 3 was more reminescent of her classic character design.

The first game is the best yes, but the second one is still a 10 out of 10.
People with Xbox consoles were so lucky playing these games earlier.
Sony somehow knew these games were true gems, and I admire how they went out of their way to get them for us too.

While sadly not being more than an average game at best for the time, it was at least a huge improvement over the awful Xbox game and it's slightly upgraded but still just as awful Black edition.
Ninja Gaiden II was one of the earlier games I got for my Xbox 360. I bought it when a local movie renting store had a sale on a select few newer games of the time (most of them were PS3 titles but I didn't have a PS3 then so I passed them by) and I had a coupon code for 50% off on anything in the store including things already on sale. The only Xbox 360 title I found that was part of the sale, the still fairly new Ninja Gaiden II that would've cost 399kr at the time otherwise, was now only a quarter of the price at 99kr, which was very cheap for a new next gen game, so I picked it up.
Sadly, after having tried it out for a bit, I was left disappointed, sure it was a huge improvement over the last gen predecessor(s), but not anywhere near enough, it was still not a good game by any stretch.
So on Xbox 360 I spent most of my time with other games, and for hack-n-slash games specifically both the PS2 and original Xbox had plenty of fantastic games to offer that were all a lot better than Ninja Gaiden II and there were other great hack-n-slashers for the Xbox 360 as well, so I never had any reason to return to Ninja Gaiden II and I've only started it up once or maybe twice since.
It might have been cheap for the time but it was still mostly a waste of money.
I've been thinking about playing it again recently, before I try out Ninja Gaiden 3 which I own but haven't played yet, but I've had a constant stream of other games I've wanted to play more and still have plenty of those left, so it will probably take a while before I get back to the modern Ninja Gaiden series again.

Completely off topic, but Cervantes do you own an original Xbox? I remember hearing you say that you don't own one and play all your classic xbox titles on your 360. Do I have this right?

As someone who liked Black/Sigma I really wasn't as impressed with Sigma 2. It's okay, but it felt more like a mind-numbing Hack & Slash then 1 did.

Yes, definitely not as tight as the first one overall, but if you amp the difficulty the combat has a lot more depth, definitely more than Razor's Edge, which is not a bad game either. The first one is the clear winner though.

Yep, right: I play the few classic Xbox games I have on my 360. Balder - While NG2 has one of the most fun combat systems I've ever seen in any game, it lost the exploration and platforming that I enjoyed from Black. It was just a series of (admittedly very fun) fights with not much in-between. Also, it has some problems that weren't in the original, like performance issues (I remember missing my combo timing constantly because of slowdowns in large fights), enemies attacking from off-screen and OH SO MANY annoying ranged attacks, especially those f****** that shoot a million missiles from a distance. Also, a lot of invisible walls everywhere, so I felt like I was confined in this corridor through the entire game. It's a missed oportunity because it's not just the combat that in great in the 3d NG games, but the movement itself, so the lack of platforming sections was missed in my eyes. Now, get the NG2 or Razor's Edge combat system and use it in a slightly more open scenery (not an outright open world, mind you, just a world with a few more possibilities for exploration and platforming) and you have my ideal game.

Razor's Edge on Rise Of The Tomb Raider? Something like this, yes. I would prefer a "Ninja Gaiden on Hyrule", but just because I think the Zelda games have generally better level design. Or, to be more straightforward, a modern NG game that uses NG 2/RE combat with a follow-up to NG Black's level design, that would be enough to me. I've just remembered that Dragon's Dogma gets very close to this concept: depending on your class, the combat gets vaguely similar to Ninja Gaiden (though not quite there), and it does that in an open world. It's among my favourite games this year, in fact. Really recommended.
