Damn I thought we were talking about the 80's Blob. That movie rules. This one was good, too. Steve McQueen was the shit. 5/5 for being about blobs, which are cool.

Yeah, it was a toss up between this one and the remake. I chose this one because it came first and because it stars the King of Cool, Steve McQueen. 27 year old McQueen does an excellent job of portraying a 17 year old. He doesn't get to drive any particularly great cars, and outside of the scene where he drives backwards he doesn't really drive much at all, but he's still Steve McQueen dammit and that's good enough for me. I like to think he would've had a cameo in the remake if cancer hadn't killed him first.

I've also given this movie a 4/5. It's enjoyable, but not the best Blob movie. Definitely not the best Steve McQueen movie. Nevertheless, as cobretti has noted, it does feature a blob and it also features Steve McQueen, so it ain't all bad. Movies like this one make me feel nostalgic for a time that I never experienced. The Blob in particular feels like it meets all of the cliches you'd expect from a 1950s monster movie. The ending felt a little disappointing to me, but the scene where the Blob devours the doctor was more graphic than I would expect from a movie of this time period. Nothing like the gore of recent films, but still a pretty good effect. |

Agreed it's not the best Blob or Steve McQueen movie but enjoyable enough. I almost voted 3 but decided on 4/5.
