Unless I'm accidentally overlooking a suggestion from someone, I think I'm all out. So I figured I'd slowly get us going into the holiday spirit. Christmas already huh? I've already scheduled my yearly viewing of the best Christmas movie ever, Die Hard.

It started its life as the sequel to the greatest movie of all time, Commando, so its only natural the Die Hard kicks ass. Bruce Willis rules in this one, as he rules in most movies, and he's kicking the ass of a bunch on pansy Europeans like any good American would do. Also kicking ass is Carl Winslow from Family Matters, the show with Urkel. 23 people die in the movie, which is pretty cool. Nowhere near as high of a body count as the superior Die Hard 2: Die Harder, but is still a good body count for most movies. Death rules. No nudity to speak of, which sucks, and John McClain's wife looks like she has a nice rack of lamb and I would have enjoyed seeing them, but you can't win them all.
All in all, Die Hard rules. 5/5 for sure.

Did scipioafricanus suggest this? We just went to the theater and saw this for the 30th anniversary of its release. (For some reason, I expected more people would be there...) It was freakin' awesome. This movie still holds up to today's standards. I love this movie. |

I’m not saying Die Hard is crap because less people died, but my bloodlust was more satisfied in Die Hard 2. It’s the difference of a couple dozen deaths versus a couple hundred deaths. Now if we got to see some big ass nude breasts flopping around in Die Hard, I would give it the nod, but seeing as, if memory serves, both lack nudity, I have to give the nod to the movie with the higher body count. I’m sure you understand. |

Alan Rickman's Hans Gruber is a perfect villain. That makes Die Hard better than the sequel.

Die Hard is the only Christmas movie that transcends the holiday. You can watch it in July and still enjoy it. Beat that, It's A Wonderful Life! I often learn interesting things when creating these threads. I get all the cast and crew info from Wikipedia and sometimes read the Behind The Scenes stuff about whichever movie I'm making a thread for. What cobretti said above is true, before Bruce Willis was cast as McClane, Arnold was considered and the movie would have been Commando 2. But before that, Fox was actually required by contract to offer the role to Frank Sinatra! The reason being that the movie is based on a series of books written by Roderick Thorp. Old Blue Eyes starred in the first movie adaptation twenty years earlier. Sinatra would have been 72 had he accepted the role in the sequel. It would've been something different than what we got, but still kinda fun to imagine. Yippee ki yay, motherfucker. |
