Oops, for some reason I thought it was Tuesday today. These exam periods make me lose track of time. Anyways, it's posted now.

I didn't even know it was on the Genesis. This is a terrible fighting game, but when you're a kid you don't know that.
My aunt bought it for me on her trip to Panama. I was very excited for it because I already loved Battletoads & Double Dragon, which I was very good at.
I honestly wasn't expecting a fighting game, let alone the fifth in the series. Funny enough Double Dragon IV is a 2017 game by Arc System Works, and it is not a fighter.
This game is what makes me consider Double Dragon on the Neo Geo (the one with the funny theme) to be Double Dragon VI, and that one is also a fighter.
I feel this game, Double Dragon V, has good ideas, it has character, a memorable roaster, and even a somehow interesting lore, but it was basically a copycat of everything from that time.
I learned all the specials, and finishing moves with every character, but I can't deny this game is way below average when it comes to fighters of its time. One of the worse in that generation.
I'm still amazed how even till this day, this game is still nostalgic to me, probably more than Super Street Fighter II, which I didn't own until a year later, and Super Street Fighter II is one of the best of all time.

Never knew this was on the Jaguar.
This game was another lazy port on the Jag, because people loved to use the old Motorolla chip and dress up the graphics a bit for an easy pay day. I remember playing this one at a kiosk at EB Games (I never owned a Jaguar, but I wanted one at the time for Alien vs. Predator.), and it struck me as strange that this didn't look that much better than the 16 bit counterparts. This guy says it all, though. This game is only worth it if you got the comic book insert.

I like when I see people playing this game, even if they will come to the same conclusion of how bad it is, simply because it is nice to see I wasn't the only one that got to experience all of that, LOL! One thing I liked about that video you linked is that he points out how cheesy the endings are, which to me is a very interesting thing to notice about this game. Having cheesy endings, and themes, is a very Japanese thing, but this game was developed in the West, so the fact that the devs nailed that part is something that deserves praise, simply because you always expect people in the West trying to be all serious, which to me is lame. This game being purposely cheesy, and succeeding at that, definitely gives it extra points. I'm also glad he pointed out some of the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter references that even as a kid I was able to spot. There is a stage that looks almost the same as Goro's Lair for example, which shows how big those IPs were, and how devs were trying to replicate that experience. I feel that alone was the reason why Tradewest decided to go for a fighting game, which was the biggest genre, as opposed of a beat 'em up that was already a thing of the past. Sadly, because as much as I love fighting games, which is my favorite genre, beat 'em ups is a great genre too.
