I'm just bringing out this because I'm seriously surprised why we don't hear of this game anymore after being one of the most popular on the planet next to Super Mario Bros., Tetris, and Pac-Man.
I know the mobile platform isn't ideal, but this game has nothing to envy to other classic arcade games. In my opinion it could easily be counted on par with games like Breakout, Asteroids, and Joust.
The gameplay is fun, your snake starts smalls, then goes big. Your goal is to chase and eat the dots on the screen to keep getting bigger. In the later levels blocks and various obstacles are introduced, so in the case you crash it is game over.
That kind of simplicity is what made it so popular, and it became one of the most beloved franchises that turned a lot of people into gamers all over the world.

I miss my Nokia brick phone. The Nokia free phone was the first phone I and most people in their 30s had and Snake was my jam.

I have a modern Nokia, and it's a shame this game doesn't come pre-loaded into their phones anymore.

I remember playing this on the 2600 and the Apple II as a kid. I love this game. It is so simple, yet addicting. By the way, teenagers play this all the time, since it is free on Google. I see them playing this on Chromebooks while pretending to do school work all the time.

There's a game called NotGTA/NotTheNameWeWanted on Steam, if you haven't heard of it. It's a very British Snake clone made 5 years ago. Rather than eating dots, you have to run over campers, hippies, pensioners or collect soap or shred incrimating evidence as David Cameron (back when he was PM of Britian).

There was a time that I was so bored that I decided to "win" the game, designing a route that would allow the snake to fill the entire screen. The game got really slow in the late game, making it easier (yeah, Snake demanded a huge processing power from those Nokia bricks, go figure) and it worked.
It sucks that achievements weren't invented yet, as I would show everyone how much bored I was.

Cervantes, nicely done! Every cellphone I had came with a different version. One in particular came with many different shapes of barriers you can crash into in later levels, but I remember making it very far, and feeling pretty damn awesome about it.

I gave this game a 4/5. It's a great game, and it a big part of what makes it so great is how accessible it is. Everyone can play it, and that's were Snake falls a little bit short compared to other arcade games. A noob can easily get a decent score on Snake, and an expert can perfect it, it lacks a high skill ceiling compared to other arcade games. I think the perfect arcade games should have a high skill ceiling, and it's a plus if it's got a low skill floor.

Balder, it depends of the version, some of those versions I remember to be humanly impossible to beat because of the speed, and the lack of real state in later levels. That's just my memory though.
