No poll yet. In case I forget to come back and vote later, let it be know I'd give it a 5. Love the original game and Outrun 2.

My very first encounter with Outrun was Outrun 3D on the MAster System, which required those funny glasses which didn't come with the game because it was a rental. As a result, the game looked distorted.
My latest version is Turbo Outrun, which is crap! It's fast, maybe too fast because the animation is jerky, you don't have time to react to obstacles. It's not a smooth as Super Hang On. It's like Sega forgot it had blast processing.
The PSP version is Outrun 2006: Coast2Coast. It's nicely polished, but it seems to have a bug where it cannot dtect the 1.6 MB of space on your memory card that it needs to save your game. Pity! Another thing it needs is the option to throw your in-game girlfriend out of the car and drive off, especially when you Time Over and she starts slapping you.
Finally, there's the PS2 version on the Sega Classics Collection. That's the most leet version I have.
A neat feature, from the Master System onwards, just like Super Hang On, is that you can choose your own music.

This is a very nice suggestion. This game was truly revolutionary. It's an easy 10 out of 10 on the arcades.

Since I grew up in the era of 3D racers like F-Zero x and Xtreme G, I'm not interested in trying to get into these pseudo-3D racers from the 80s and early 90s.

Well considering I grew up playing Goldeneye on N64 and can't even bring myself to play that anymore, it's very easy for me to be turned away from outdated stuff like this. I'm not a graphics whore or anything, but looking at footage of this game makes me feel sick. No joke.

I'm not *that* much of a fan of Out Run, but I still enjoy it depending on my mood. What I truly like about it is that it's not a "racing" game, but a driving game: the focus isn't on beating other racers, but on enjoying the car ride and nice coastal breeze as long as you can while wowing your girlfriend. The fact that you're not racing on tracks, but just going through many different settings, choosing your own roads, adds to that feeling of freedom.
I would say it's the second best "super scaler" from Sega, right after Space Harrier. I'll give it a 4/5.
