I only suggested Clock Tower 3, so you can give this credit to
Pimpjira. I'm actually not familiar with any other game in the series.
I remember that even when I bought Clock Tower 3, I thought it was a new series, and that even Clock Tower 1, and Clock Tower 2 were also in the PlayStation 2.
Little did I know the Super Nintendo had the first one, and the PlayStation 1 had the second one.
These console transitions were actually very common, even for Capcom themselves. For example Mega Man X to X3 were in the Super Nintendo, then X4 to X6 were on the PlayStation 1, then finally X7 and X8 appeared on the PlayStation 2.
It felt weird to me because my direction was different. I went from Super Nintendo, to Nintendo 64, to PlayStation 2. I did owned the PlayStation 1, and the GameCube, but the others were my primary choice.
I have to say I always thought the series was successful, similar to what happened with both 3D Castlevania games on the PlayStation 2.
We all knew the N64 Castlevania games were not well received, but the PS2 ones were absolutely beloved by the people that had them, they felt like the perfect transition from Symphony Of The Night.
On top of that both Castlevania games on the PS2 were considered AAA back then, just like Clock Tower 3 was considered AAA. It felt like it had a Silent Hill budget.
So to me when I see a company of the level of Capcom invest that many resources into a game my idea is that they are planning to keep those series afloat.
For Castlevania we got the Lords Of Shadow games, which were AAA too, but for Clock Tower we didn't get anything. Which led me to me believe this was a one time hit for Capcom, and despite me knowing it had a 3 on the title, it always felt like it was the only game in the series.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing another Clock Tower. The competition was rough during the PlayStation 2 era for survival horror games. After the success of Silent Hill 2, every one was making a lot of them, and it is nice to see titles like this stand out among those.
I have to say that one clever thing Capcom did was to promote it for those of us that were into the Silent Hill games with providing a similar cover to Silent Hill 3
It definitely worked, and the good thing is that we were not disappointed for that, the game turned out to be a good buy after all.
