The best game in the series. Hard to believe this came out in 95, it still looks amazing and has one of the best intros to a game ever.

Soul Edge had a lot of competition with titles like Star Gladiator, Dynasty Warriors, Battle Arena Toshinden, Bushido Blade, Samurai Shodown going 3D, etc., and despite all the heavy competition it is a series still running strong.
Like the thread said it was called Soul Blade on the PlayStation 1, and it got a very iconic sequel on the Dreamcast called SoulCalibur. Unlike Dynasty Warriors that went on into creating the musuo genre, Soul Edge maintained the same type of 1 on 1 weapon fighting for its sequels.
I play it on my PlayStation 1 Classic, and despite being from that generation of PS1 games, it is still very playable, and very enjoyable, which is why I can still recommend it to anyone on its original form.

Funny that all the competition you mentioned, only Samurai Shodown still exists(as a fighter that is, DW is very much still around). I have not played this in forever since it was at a Walmart I shopped it. From what I remember it was only a quarter instead of 50 cents like so many other arcade games around that time so I played it a lot. Voldo must have been my favorite character back then because he is the only one I remember playing as.
