Why we need a discussion thread for this game when we have a discussion thread for the entire series is beyond me, but whatever, here it is.

Didn't enjoy this as much as Soul Blade, but still the best game in the calibur series imo. All the Soulcalibur games i played after this lacked the soul the first game had (No pun intended).

My first fighter on the Dreamcast, outdoing Virtua Fighter 3. Story Mode had a way of adding twists to all the fights as well as giving you unlockable art.

This game is pure awesomeness for me. For me the first 3 games are just ridiculously good, including Soul Blade, and they always kept getting better, 2 being the best, but this one is definitely up there. If 2 is a 10, 1 is a solid 9.9.

It's crazy to think that the most critically acclaimed entry in the legendary Soul Calibur series also happens to be arguably the most elusive, being an exclusive launch title for the short-lived Sega Dreamcast. And, before that, an arcade exclusive. I enjoyed the original Soul Calibur, although since I didn't grow up with it I have no nostalgia for it. I also regret not spending enough time with it back when I still owned a copy of it and a Sega Dreamcast, all of which I have since sold off, and that was quite a while ago. Looking back though, it's easy to see why some fans were disappointed that its sequel, Soul Calibur 2, didn't improve on the original very much outside of the graphics, since it carried over almost every character save for the newcomer fighters Talim, Raphael, Cassandra (who is merely a semi-clone of Sophitia), and the guest characters Link, Heihatchi, Spawn and Necrid, the first three being console exclusive-sensitive. I'm not even sure how much Soul Calibur II improved on the gameplay mechanics, since I was too young and stupid to play into the first one that deep way back then to know. The original Soul Calibur really was an amazing game for the time with outstanding graphics, art direction, music, and opening CGI. I think we can all agree that the Soul Calibur series has given us some of the most dazzling and impressive 3D opening cinematics in gaming: Soul Calibur 1 has my favorite intro for some reason. Wish I could play it again. I hear it was brought to digital stores on consoles years ago but I don't have internet service and don't feel like going through all that BS just to play it.
