This is a great game, one of my favorite beat 'em ups from that generation, and one of the biggest titles on the Sega Genesis. It is an all time classic, with great style, and visual appeal, that doesn't age, and it is still fun to play till this day.

This was my most played game on the Sega 6-Pak growing up as it was the best game on it with co-op. It was lots of fun. I've also played it a number of times since on various Sega collections, arcade version on Wii VC, and arcade machine at Galloping Ghost.

Pimpjira - That 6-PAK cartridge was just perfect, I played countless hours of Golden Axe in coop with my cousin thanks to it. It was a very impressive game to me, as I was used to NES graphics - plus, beat'em ups were a genre that rarely worked so well on 8-bit machines, so playing games like Golden Axe and Streets of Rage on the Mega Drive was always a great thing.

Sega's 16 bit beat-em-up take on the medieval fantasy genre was and still is an outstanding beat-em-up that I still enjoy playing to this day. I consider it the second best 16 bit home console beat-em-up after Streets of Rage 3. The gameplay in Golden Axe is far faster than the overrated AF SoR 2 thanks to the addition of a dash mechanic. It's amazing how one simple little mechanic can improve the speed and playability of a game so much. My only complaint about Golden Axe is that it's a bit too short.
Still an outstanding game though. 5/5.

Anyone played the 3D remake on the PS2? No, but the soundtrack update is great.
