So here it is my all time favorite "modern" racing game. Grid 1 for the PS3, 360 and PC. I have written a few reviews myself so this is my first one I ever wrote and compiled.
To start this review out there is no car customization in it except I think having the ability to paint your car a different color. But because the game is so much fun and runs so smooth its easy to overlook.
The career mode in it lasts a very long time. I have owned this game for years now and I still have not done everything in it career mode wise. I'm only now going back and trying to do everything in the game there is to do career mode wise. The career mode is very in depth and is tons of fun. There was a multiplayer option at one point in time but the servers for it have been shut down for a while now. The career mode finds a perfect balance between linearity and openness. Thankfully having a singleplayer campaign still available for the game means this game did not fall into worthlessness like so many games are going to do today that are online only.
The game im guessing runs at a constant 60 frames per second and it stays that way throughout the game during the races. Not once have I ever encountered slowdown with it or lag. it runs incredibly well and very fluently.
The AI is aggressive but not overly aggressive or unrealistically so. However the racing does not feel realistic nor fair which is to be expected from arcade racing games like this.
There is a large amount of cars in the game and you can even buy cars off the ebay motors website when you need too. However you can also buy them new for what they go for in the game. The cars on the in game ebay motors website tend to have mileage on them already and may have even been totaled a few items. They also tell you how many events its been in and how many wins its got under its belt. You can get the cars for cheaper there instead of buying them brand new.
Some races have day and night effects and sometimes it even rains I think. They also have the 24 hr. lemans race in the game which I usually skip over every time.
It also has 2 sequels grid 2 and grid auto sport. I have heard to avoid grid 2 though as the cars in it it suffer from under-steer or over-steer either one. Either way avoid grid 2. Grid auto-sport which I never played supposedly fixed this problem and added even more to do in the game. I would recommend the first and 3rd ones if you were going to try any games in this series.
Overall I would have to give this game a 4/5 and I almost feel like it deserves a 5/5 rating. However I just don't think I can do that but I can still give this game a 4/5 and an easy recommendation if you like arcade style racing games for modern systems. This is one of the better modern day racing games out there nowadays and you could probably get a copy pretty cheaply now. Recommended for sure.
