I bought Moon because it had the action figure in the box set, and Sun was just the game because the one with the action figure was not available at the moment.
I don't know much about Pokémon other than what you see on Smash, I also don't play RPGs, and I still bought it because in my mind I wanted to see what all the hype was about, the same thing happened with Pokémon X, and Alpha Sapphire, all three physical.
That alone shows how good their marketing is because if you were collecting for the 3DS they felt important, and guess what? I still haven't played them. They are probably some of my most mindless purchases in gaming, but I wanted to learn the genre, and they say Pokémon games are the best way to start.
I actually came back from Las Vegas and my plan was to bring a Pokémon game for the road because I wasn't driving, but I didn't bring anything at the last second. So now I need to plan this for another time otherwise I will never get to it.
I'm just debating from which of the three I should start with, I'm thinking probably Alpha Sapphire since it's the oldest I have.

Sorry I'm late to the party. I've had trouble finding the time for getting to wifi spots this past week. That's just how it is for me right now. I haven't played Pokemon Sun & Moon, but they seem like a step-up from X & Y. Gamefreak seemed to put more effort into giving this new region a distinct personality compared to X&Y's world. There also seems to be more new pokemon introduced compared to X & Y, which is a huge draw for me if true, because new pokemon are an important part of the franchise's appeal. The new pokemon seem well designed, although I've only seen a handful of them so far. And Sun & Moon also introduced a new mechanic: alternate forms This seems like a pretty cool addition, considering it's much more in line with traditional pokemon mechanics than mega evolutions were. Pokemon Sun and Moon still has mega evolutions for players who like to use them, and introduces a few new mega evolutions from what I've heard, but thankfully there are more new pokemon this time around to keep mega evolutions from feeling like the only thing to get excited about, which is a good thing for people who didn't care for it like me. Overall, I would be interested in trying Sun & Moon eventually, assuming I can find it at a reasonable price, since it looks to be a more worthy entry in the series than X & Y were.
