Paging authorized mech-operating CGR wings, do you copy?
This is Kirby Planet Robobot, a game that released a few months ago to the 3DS somewhat on deaf ears. I bought it on a whim and was highly impressed in several manners.
The visuals are really stunning, even through the camera lens. Coupled with the enemy and hazard-laden environments, players are in for some real eye candy. The soundtrack is rich and endearing, opposite to what you might expect from a game about robots, complete with an assortment of styles. There are some boops and beeps but c'mon, the game is robot-themed!
Favorites:
Strut like a ballsy heroic to this right here
Let's roll dice!
Good-ole melodic water theme
Why do obsolete menu themes always have the best tracks?
Core game is easy but that's to be expected. Only odd in that the combat system is so rich and full of copy abilities (25 as Kirby and 11 as the mech) but I suppose that's all the better for speedrunners which does play a part in the post-game content. Records can be shared via StreetPass to see who reigns supreme which doesn't much apply to me because I rarely take the 3DS out of the house. I like the concept of the post-game content and the bulk of it, especially how it's not focused on mini-games, but the fact of the matter (to me) is story content and completion rating shouldn't be locked behind it.
If an absurdly difficult boss rush mode is not something you are striving for, rare sticker collection will keep you busy as they are adequately hidden through many of the levels (I'm still hunting three down from world 6!). There is another cool post-game mode that I won't spoil for those inclined to try the game but which I did highly appreciate, especially as a fan of a Smash-Bros.-esque combat system ( speaking of which... no never mind, I'll let you find out on your own ;] ).
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by Robobot. I personally prefer a more standard adventure mode that doesn't complicate things with post-game content that works against the player in the end but I am content with what I got to experience (and the jukebox especially! that's helping me to train for a 10k so big ups Kirby).
