It's hard not to go into spoilers in this weeks discussion, but what I can tell anyone who's wanting to play this is: Get the whole trilogy and enjoy one of the greatest RPGs of all time, and easily my favorite modern RPG.It is perfect up until the very last 5 minutes of the last game, which falls a little short.

I didn't play the whole trilogy until ME3 had been out for a while, and I'm really glad I got to experience it all at one.
On replays, ME1 in particular has a lot of clunky mechanics, but is definitely still playable and fun.
I have at least one friend who replays the whole trilogy 2-3 times a year, as it seems to be their happy place.

Is this like The Sims but with guns? Can you have intercourse in this game?

I loved the first two games, and was disappointed about things in the third(didn't care for most of the new characters or EDI's humanoid design, choices from the 1st two games mostly meant squat, the ending, wished to see more of ME2's cast, some bugs I ran into) but still liked it. So I'm voting a 4.

That's too bad 'cause I love The Sims. So is this a RPG? Like Dragon Age Inquisition but in the future?

I know what it is about, I have experienced it, and I can't vote.
Let me explain. I didn't know even the name "Mass Effect" until number 3 came out. I downloaded the demo and played it one day... Damn!...It wasn't the worst demo I've played, but I wonder if it was the worst impressions compared to full product. The demo threw me in a few different situations, if I remember right in the first I was just running through some disaster scenario, while in the others I was fighting inside beatiful buildings, and the combat wasn't very good... You see, I don't know if this happens throughout the whole game, but the melee move was an instant kill that trivialized enemies in a ridiculous way, that's... Ugh... Hm... I actually think I'm underselling how bad the experience was, so to give a better example, the only demo that was worse than the ME3 demo, to my knowledge, was the Killzone 2 demo.

So is this a RPG? Like Dragon Age Inquisition but in the future? In a word - Yes. But Dragon Age is essentially a top-down slasher/shooter (or at least 2 & Inquisition are, DA:Origins was more a traditional turn based RPG like KOTOR), while Mass Effect is for all intents and purposes, a TPS. You never played Mass Effect?? Then you skipped on the very best game series the 7th Gen had to offer. The only one of the era truly worthy of being called 'groundbreaking' and worthy of an 'A' grade as far as I'm concerned. It was the first game to really allow a player customised character to interact seamlessly with other characters in the story while making the drama almost natural and believable - literally making you the star of your own space adventure. Setting & storywise, it's an homage to all of Sci-Fi pop culture in general, with references to Star Wars, Terminator, Alien, Blade Runner, Battlestar Galactica... etc. The over-arching plot however, borrowed heavily from the 90s cult TV series Babylon 5 - i.e The imminent return of an ancient legend that threatens to cleanse the Galaxy of life every few thousands of years... and your character's efforts to counter it by making allies with whoever you can in the galaxy. It was also greatly influenced by the amazing Star Control 2 from the early 90s, of which an updated version for modern systems is available for free DL now (you're welcome). I never had a problem with the ending that everyone complains about either. Blue choice for the win!

See this is why is so hard for me to get into story driven games. Metal Gear I can handle because it looks like Rambo even if it doesn't play like it.
From EA I can do Dead Space maybe because I give them credit for their GameCube James Bond titles that I absolutely love.
For the most part EA lost me on the 7th gen despite how much appreciation I had for them on the the 6th gen, and that goes for all their franchises like Need For Speed, FIFA, The Sims, 007, etc..

Is this like The Sims but with guns? Can you have intercourse in this game? Yes. I know for sure that in the first Mass Effect you can engage in intercourse with a partner. This actually caused a bit of controversy at the time of release. Fox News did a segment on this subject quite a while back, where they analyzed it, and brought in figures from the gaming industry and a child psychologist to debate on whether or not this sort of thing is acceptable in video games. They also questioned whether the game should've been given the AO rating instead of M. Check it out for yourself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKzF173GqTU Interesting stuff.

What a bunch of hypocrites. I can see in their faces how much these women are into sex. What is their goal really? To prevent kids to know what sex is? This is why so many kids are abused nowadays because no one would tell them anything about it and they grow up all repressed.

What a bunch of hypocrites. I can see in their faces how much these women are into sex. Ha- haaah.... You would know, eh? It's a mistake to go in it with only that in mind though. While it is there, it is relatively PG13(?) softcore semi nudity and nowhere as gratuitous as what you will find in something like the Witcher. It is also a mistake to evaluate it purely on gameplay, as merely judging it by simple TPS terms will put it at a disadvantage against dedicated games of that ilk. You need to go in willing to immerse and play the role of your character (the dashing Commander Gustavo Shepard) in an expansive space opera drama in order to get the most out of the experience - the shooting simply carries it along, and the (eventual) sex is just payoff for investing in relationship with a chosen ally. So it boils down to that essentially - an eclectic experience greater than it's summation as an over the shoulder shooter or a choose your own adventure story - provided there's the willingness to immerse and personally get involved in the narrative. If that's too much of an investment... there's always Metal Gear... or Gradius V !... or even Ikaruga ! (still waiting on a score to try and beat btw...)
