Added to the list of reviews. I tagged those people so that it won't only be centipede, melee maestro and myself who gives suggestions.

I thought we had to wait for you to ask us via PM, O Exalted One. Yeah, but that got tiresome and a lot of people never responded or responded really late. So shoot me up a message.

Balder Alright. I'll do the next one. I take the ones that come first, so next will be melee maestro, then stratogustav then whichever comes next.

As far as I know this is the very first shooter ever rendering on actual 3D. I could be wrong, but I heard Wolfenstein and Doom were only simulating the 3D effect.
All those id IPs have been notorious for having a very good reception on current generation consoles since they were adopted by Bethesda to the point that even I who is not a first person shooter fan wants to give them a try.
Quake in particular is known for its multiplayer, and even on the Dreamcast it was already ahead of its time supporting online connectivity.
I'm not a fan of online multiplayer when it comes to shooters so I imagine the new Quake may not be for me. Even the name Champions doesn't ring a bell for shooters, it makes me think of something Blizzard would come up with. These are PC IPs after all, so the fact that we are getting them in consoles is already a bonus I guess.

One of my favorites overall but there are a couple of real stinkers.
I like the first three Quake games on PC just fine but as a console gamer first I prefer the console versions.
I like Quake on Saturn and N64 equally but I always hated that they never made a PSX version, I would've absolutely loved that.
Luckily I got to love Quake 2 on PSX and N64 and much later even on Xbox 360, the enhanced PlayStation version being my favorite and the PC perfect port on Xbox 360 is an extremely close second. The N64 port is close to a good PC port but it suffers from too many minor issues and it's easily the worst version of Quake 2 in my opinion, but it is Quake 2 so it's still one of the best games available on the N64 and a great game nonetheless. Quake 2 is one of the select few games I've ever enjoyed playing online, the other two being Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2003.
I enjoy Quake 3 Arena on Dreamcast a lot and Quake 3 Revolution on PS2 is okay even if it's not as good as it should've been, with long load times and controls you need to tweak and test before it becomes playable it starts off weak but gets a bit better once those things are sorted out, still I strongly prefer it on Dreamcast.
Quake 4 on Xbox 360 was pretty bad with both too many technical problems and too many bad design choices to be enjoyable for me, but it initially came with the bonus disc containing the PC perfect port of Quake 2 so it's still one of the best things I've ever bought for 360.
I've only tried Quake Wars once and I didn't care for it at all.
Not gonna lie, the new Quake game doesn't look good, maybe not as bad as the new Doom game did but still not good at all, and I won't be wasting my time on it any more than I did the new Doom.

As far as I know this is the very first shooter ever rendering on actual 3D. I could be wrong, but I heard Wolfenstein and Doom were only simulating the 3D effect. Then you probably never heard of Descent. It was a FPS where you could turn up, down, left and right, since you were a figher ship inside a space mine. This formula was later cloned by Acclaim in the form of Forsaken for the N64, PS1 and PC. I owned all three versions.

I really missed on all the PC games and I still do since I had always been playing on consoles.
The one I remember wanting to play the most was Duke Nukem because I simply love the song Megadeth made for it.

The first time I played it was on my Saturn. I really like its atmosphere, how it mixes action and horror, sci-fi and medieval settings. In general, it's like the game version of a metal album cover. On the other hand, I remember it just not being as fun to play as Doom or Duke Nukem. Also, the scenery had little variation in textures/colors, so the entire game looks kinda depressing - which is fun for a few levels, but looks boring later. Quake practically invented the entire Real is brown in games. Edit: About the first "true 3d" fps, I remember Ghen War for the Saturn was also released before Quake - and that game has even deformable terrain, which is amazing.

Awwww shit. To be honest I was always more of an Unreal/Unreal Tournament guy but I still love the Quake games. I never finished 2 but I played a lot of 1, and also some Quake Live until clan arena started catching on.
Even though I was more of a UT series fan, I still enjoyed playing Quake 3 since it's almost a totally different experience for me. Quake maps were usually much more compact, the selection of weapons was kept to the essentials and the weapons themselves were more straightforward. It was overall a more streamlined experience and I can appreciate that.
Also, since we're bringing up pre-Quake 3d shooters, didn't Terminator Skynet come out before Quake too?

I used to love the Quake, haven't played any in a while though. Quake 1-3 were all good, including the different version of Quake 2 on N64.

But Balder, I already sent you a topic, if nobody sends you a new game we'll have to talk about that one. As for Quake... I'm not entirely a fan, as far as retro shooters go Quake may be my least favorite. The game is demanding for a heavy metal soundtrack that isn't there, the environments are dull, gray and devoid of imagination. The first chapter is by far the best chapter in the entire game and that sucks because the first chapter is the only free one (Man, those Shareware days and their shennanigans). The X axis is also locked by default which pisses me off because I can't make use of some of the cooler mechanics that it has to offer like rocket jumping (Pipe jumping can be fun though). The one thing that I do like about the original Quake however are the mods and the use given by other developers, a lot of staple FPS multiplayer games and gamemodes came from it. The engine also led to the creation of Half-life, Malice and Hexen 2 which show the capabilities of the engine and piss me off at the same time because they showcase the massive waste of potential of Quake. Quake 2 is wank. Never got to play Quake 3 properly because I was still using a dial-up modem at the time #thirdworldproblems Always wanted to play Quake 4 for some weird reason and yet I've never come accross a physical copy for the 360 (Yes I know it's available on Steam) and... wait.... Didn't we have this game discussion once already?!

Guilion we've never had a Quake discussion before. You may be thinking of Doom which we had ages ago. The weekly game discussion depends on who sent me a suggestion first. We already had your suggestion which was Fallout. Here's the order from next week on: meleemaestro, stratogustav, Cervantes. If anyone has suggestions just send them.
