It's good to know that good indie games are a thing and that not all of them dig their own graves just for being indie, case and point, SteamWorld Dig: I like this game as it's a simple concept but still deviates from tropes of the genre without feeling tacky. There's something about the scope of each underground stage that makes the game feel massive even though it's quite short. Progression occurs naturally and customization proves a valuable asset towards that end and giving the player choice. Visual and sound effects are outstanding: caves and music are dark and foreboding the further you dig into the world and the further you are from an access point to the HUB world that you may have lost or never set up creates a genuine sense of danger and discomfort. It's not the most magnificent must-play title but SteamWorld Dig is a creative spin on a genre that too often feels stale and holds a candle high for other indie games to follow. **** / *****

Thanks for the review teddykongcountry. I think I have this for the Vita, Wii U and 3ds. Really need to get around to trying it

Ted I didn't know you owned a PS4! I thought you were only into handhelds and retro consoles? I guess I was wrong.

@imperial Khador - dang! Sounds like you struck gold with all these humble bundles lately. It's worth the playthrough; hope you find some time to commit to it! Spirit Bomb - The real reason I invested in a modern console was so that I would be able to play the Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor Yooka Laylee next year. Although a Nintendo fan, I'm not unrealistic about which consoles have the greatest longevity / which are the most consumer-friendly and I could not turn my nose up to either the PS4 library, console capabilities or the killer Black Friday deal on the console and games. Turns out I made a good choice as the Wii-U version of Yooka Laylee is getting canned.

Indie games with lesser budgets and tiny dev teams can hold up against big AAA titles nowadays.
You easily see games like Journey, Flower, Limbo, Inside, and Shovel Knight next to Rise Of The Tomb Raider and Super Mario 3D Land.
It is a recent phenomenon as before they didn't quite have a space in the market as big publishers were more prolific releasing their own titles than today.

I guess that's what we call the 'Indie Phenomenon.' Limbo has been popular for quite a while now; I believe Unravel has potential to catch up there too but I worry that the genre might run dry. It's good to see games like those in the Steamworld series and Shovel Knight try such drastically different measures that still prove effective within their respected mediums. Let's hear it for indie games in 2017!

Sweet.... But what's so wtf about Rubik's World? That's a real find! Very nice to know you've joined the PS4 ranks btw. If you leave your PSN name maybe someone will drop you a line! Ain't that right Gustavo?...
