Recently, my 3DS XL went out of commission (I run a train on these things), therefore, I got the cheapest option on the market, the 2DS. www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=6YoSdXffCsE
While skeptical at first, I really needed a means to play my expansive library of wonderful DS and 3DS games and on nearly every front, I vastly prefer the 2DS.Design - this thing is sleek, a solid weight and has a very logical design that's comfortable to hold. Functionality - Everything works great -- minus the 3D of course -- and I especially like how the control stick and buttons are aligned. With gyroscope games like Mario Kart 7 or Ocarina of Time, the console works like a charm. I want to try it out with Star Fox. Price Point - Unbeatable. All in all, this console packs more of a punch than expected. In many respects, I'm sharing similar sentiments to Mark with the Game Boy Micro. After a good length of time, I'll be happy to return to properly review the console but these are my early thoughts.

I have one. My only complaint is the terrible battery life (less than 3 hours), which sucks.

I think the 2DS is a great little system in a lot of ways, though I still think it is best targeted as an entrance point to the 3DS family, or intended for younger children.
The lack of a hinge removed one of the most common breaking points on the DS family of games, though like the older Gameboy models, definitely opens the screen up to scratching if no case is used. I've also found it quite comfortable, and the price can't be beat.
The main downsides would be the battery life, which Maestro mentioned, as I believe it uses the same battery setup as the original 3DS model, and the mono speaker. If you want stereo sound, you have to go for headphones.

I did notice how under-powered the speakers were when watching my Chrono Cross video back on the thing. It looks stellar though. As per the battery life, I see the issue especially as the wifi is permanently set to on but if you run a lesser backlight around setting 3 or 2 as needed, that's sure to preserve some battery. To me it's not an issue because it's not a console I would take with me on the go.

I like the 3D function in games. When I saw them releasing the New 2DS XL I became disappointed because there is now less incentive for developers to care about stereoscopic 3D for their games.

I will say that I think the New 2DS XL is probably the most slick-looking of the entire 3DS line.

Good to know Imperial! Still haven't done it because I kind of like the auto-internet connection. This 2DS is killing it right now and I haven't added those screen protectors. I did buy one cute-as-hell Pikachu case though <3

It's the best version on the original 3DS hardware, very comfortable to hold for long gaming sessions. I just wish the buttons were a bit clicky.
