It's good, it's a bit too much style over substance in my opinion but the substance that's there is good enough.

It's good, it's a bit too much style over substance in my opinion but the substance that's there is good enough. That's a very good assessment. I would say they probably knew that no matter what they did, the story would still had a lot of substance simply because the historical event had it. I mean, the guys saved Western civilization from extinction. So my guess is Snyder decided to focus more on style. Which to be honest was a good decision, and appropiate for any Miller adapted script. They really went all out when it comes to style and made it one of the coolest films of all time as a consequence. The movie had so much style that they even got away with anal extortion when Theron tells Queen Gorgo "this will not be over quick, you will not enjoy this", and then he proceeds to you know what. She later says the same words to him when she kills him, but the damage was already done. My favorite line from real life (not from the movie) is when they tell Leonidas that the Persians throw so many arrows that they blot out the sun, to what he responded "good, that way we'll fight in the shade". It was used on the movie as well, but not as good as in real life, and not with Leonidas, but it shows how badass these guys really were. In fact, their essence still shines through all these movie representations. This is why you feel more manly when you come out of the theater. They truly inspire you. Without these men there would not be a Balder or a Dan E. Kool, everyone pretty much would had been a fsfsxii clone. I don't how good is that, but at least we have more divesity now as a consequence.

Saying the Greeks saved all of Western civilization is over-exaggerating a little bit, isn't it?
Great movie btw 4/5.

I think stragustav needs to know the difference between Persia and Arabia lol I did not called you a wimp fsfsxii. Don't believe everything they tell you. Also I'm not good with a lot of Middle East history, and I know Saudis and Persians are not the same, but it is hard to believe Arabia was never conquered by ancient Iran in the past. Sayingthe Greeks saved all of Western civilization is over-exaggerating a little bit, isn't it? Not only they saved it, we pretty much own most of our entire culture to them. Even the Romans as invaders were invaded themselves by the Greek's culture. This is why I was glad to hear that at least for a while since 1981 it was the only Eastern European country that was accepted into the European Union despite their finacial problems. They owe it to them. Now after 2004 almost everyone is in, but when that thing started it was a nice thing they did that. Those days of 300 were crucial and every battle was significant. Without 300 many other important and decisive history changing events would not had been possible later.

This is the extent of the Abbasi empire, but yes, the Persian did pose a threat against Muslims in the past, but an invasion never happened. If you did notice, PErsian look more like indians than Arabic. I read your reply lol, you never did call me a wimp, its just that Dan E. Kool is resorting to wimp tactics to get back at me for accusing him (The charges certainly stick)

It was Arabia that end up invading Persia at some point and made them Muslims. My guess is that Arabia was never conquered by the Persians because it was already their colony so they were protected during the most critical times. In fact, I doubt there is record of Arabia ever getting conquered by anyone really. And yes, I notice they do look darker just like people from Pakistan. That tells a lot as well. It is also interesting to see we are talking about this while I'm a Darius He-Man in rank. By the way, WhoDefeatz Darius or Xerxes?

The Greeks today and the Greeks from ancient times are not the same. They've wasted their own and a lot of EU's money. Anyways, are we discussing world history here or the movie?

The movie was fun for its time (I thought it was ok when I watched it in the theater), but last time I tried watching it again I couldn't even finish - I thought the dialogue was bad, the color scheme looked boring, the CGI wasn't that great, the action felt too slow...
Yeah, not a fan.

ARE YOU TELLING ME THIS MOVIE ISN'T A DOCUMENTARY!? Hell, I'll have to evaluate it again, then. EDIT: It's still below ok.

As an action aficionado, you have to have a certain tolerance for oiled up semi clothed muscle dudes. 300 passed my tolerance threshold pretty quickly. I appreciate the pure machismo of the movie but couldn't reconcile the oily men.

As an action aficionado, you have to have a certain tolerance for oiled up semi clothed muscle dudes. 300 passed my tolerance threshold pretty quickly. I appreciate the pure machismo of the movie but couldn't reconcile the oily men. Haha, that's a hilarious observation. Very true, action movies are packed with extra oil.
