I'm amazed how consistent was the higher frame rate across all games in the GameCube. You can see it even on processed YouTube video card recordings and reviews like this one. Just look at any decent recording of a Tony Hawk or a James Bond game, it really makes them stand out when you compare them with PS2 games for example. I don't think there is another console with that much consistensy in terms of higher frame rate for all their games.
Nintendo was still trying to fight piracy since the Sega Saturn and the PS1 showed how easy it was to break the code. They decided to stick with cartridges and mini CDs and in a way that hold them back because the smaller storage capacity didn't allow developers to have all their games fitting, not to mention the extra security measures of alternative physical media increased the cost of manufacturing.
It's crazy to think the GameCube had the higher CPU out of that generation, more powerful than the Dreamcast, the PS2, and even the Xbox when nowadays Nintendo does not play that power game anymore. It was the last console where they did that.
The Rogue Squadron games, just like the Metroid Prime games, Wind Waker, Sunshine, Double Dash!!, Luigi's Mansion, Twilight Princess, Toadstool Tour, the Mario Party games, Path Of Radiance, F-Zero GX, Thousand-Year Door, Eternal Darkness, Star Succesor, Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil Remake, Code Veronica, Resident Evil 4, Soul Calibur II, Wario World, Smash Bros Melee, etc. were all part of this console that closed a chapter in Nintendo's history and that we may never see again.
With the NES they were able not only to wow costumers and rescue the industry from their downfall, they were also able to overcome anything Atari put forward and the Master System too.
With the SNES they forced the Genesis to try upgrades such as the Sega CD and the 32X because the SNES not only had their basic mode 7 but when they wanted they had games with FX chips inside the cartridges that made the games more powerful without hardware add-ons on the system.
With the N64 they dominated the 3D rendering by far and even showed off their extra graphical power by putting 64 in the actual title of their console to make fun of their rivals the Saturn and the PlayStation with only 32 bits of rendering.
It was the Wii that made Nintendo to change their ways. They would no longer play the higher power card. They were no longer going to try a Zelda to look modern like they did with Twilight Princess at the time. Instead they were going to stylize everything and make the gameplay different than their competitors, while still fighting piracy considering motion controls was not something you can easily replicate, eliminating taking their chances like the Dreamcast did.
Despite how the Wii was the console with the least amount of power, no HD whatsoever, alternative control schemes, and a lot of shovelware obscuring their great titles, they still managed to destroy their competitors by far, and learned the lesson that trying to outpower anyone was not their thing.
They half tried the power approach with the Wii U once again. The system launched with the best looking Call Of Duty on consoles and the best looking Madden. They didn't even care about launching with first party games, pretty much everything was third party, like Assassin's Creed, FiFA, NBA 2K, Mass Effect 3, Batman Arkham City, etc..
However they revealed their cards too early and it only took a little over a year for the competition to come up with much more powerful stuff. Something which further made them realize that power once again was not their thing, and that they were better at having style and beautiful game design that didn't need that much power.
Nevertheless, as much as I love the titles they had been putting out in their last consoles. It would had been nice to know how Nintendo would had been like if they never had to try to avoid piracy and if they were still playing the most powerful console card. It would definitely be a complete different Nintendo to what we have today. Probably more in the like of what PlayStation is today, but with Nintendo first party games.
If we start seeing GameCube ports for the Switch I hope they are at least decent enough to keep the high frame rate because in my opinion it is a big part of what made the smooth gameplay of these games to stand out and it would be a shame if all that gets lost in translation.

I really love this review. Going into it I knew I was gonna like it, since I grew up with Rebel Strike and knew Mark would have some very interesting things to say about it, and he did (particularly about its bizarre disco intro XD). I just love hearing him talk about Star Wars, even the prequels.
As for the game itself, I really didn't spend much time playing it myself as a kid. I mostly just watched my brother play it. The graphics were certainly excellent. The game also comes packaged with a co-op version of Rouge Leader from what I hear, which makes it a worthy game to add to a GC collection. Unfortunately I don't think it sold very well though, at least not in comparison to the first two games, which may have contributed to Factor 5's bancruptcy; probably a stretch, but who knows.

I could had been dreaming, but I swear I remember that the space ship missions inside the cockpit had an arcade release. I'm not sure if they where based on Rogue Squadron II, Rogue Squadron III, or both. Maybe their was two different ones, one for each.
However I vividly remember seeing the cabinets not at the arcades but at the movie theater and they were quite amusing. Those cabinets are what made me dream of stuff like EVE Gunjack that I love so much on the PlayStation VR. I even got a black hat.
I wish they would release a license Star Wars VR version of those cockpit fights now that we have VR. I love EVE Gunjack and EVE Valkyrie too, but nothing beats the real deal of the sound effects and universe of Star Wars.
