I think the only Western films I saw from that generation were The Mask Of Zorro with Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas; and then later Don Juan DeMarco with Johnny Depp I believe.
Which makes sense because the whole Western theme was originated in Spain, then adopted by Mexicans, and immigrated to Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, etc..
It is interesting because those States are the ones that dislike Mexicans the most (no pun intended
Falcula18 ); yet their entire culture came from Mexicans. The cowboy leather style, hats, bull riding rodeo, horses, acoustic guitar music, accent, dances, duels, etc..
It is the same deal all over again when Rome adopted all Greek's gods, godesses, painting, literature, sculpture, architecture, etc., and then simply changed their name to make it "Roman".
Nowadays that's the equivalent of changing the suid deck cards drawings from gold and swords to hearts and diamonds.
Basically the Greeks were conquered by Roman's militia, but the Romans were conquered by Greek's culture.
I would say the real United States traditional culture is the one that we see originated in New England, the Yankee stuff. Nowadays it doesn't matter because the whole country is multicultural.
I would say California is the State with the biggest push to influence. Their films, social movements, TV shows, music artists, urban tribes such as hipsters, Naughty Dog (whatever), Steve Jobs' silicon valley, etc., is the stuff that end ups overseas, while New York is the opposite, and they are the ones getting influenced by everyone else.
So they are both progressive except one progresses inside out while the other ouside in. The conservatives on the other hand like to keep the stuff they adopted in previous centuries.
How did I end up talking about all that stuff? I feel like a crazy person now.
By the way, talking about Juan DeMarco. What a superb majestic awesome song from Bryam Adams. It is definitely one of my all time favorites for sure:
Which is funny I said that considering I had been hearing some bay area music lately, you know, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, Exodus, and also a little bit of Guns N' Roses which are from L.A..
Talking about L.A., Val Kilmer rocks, he is an infinite times better Batman than George Clooney could ever dream, and almost the true reincarnation of Jim Morrison. Although Val Kilmer is from California while Jim is from Florida. The Doors are from L.A., so close enough.
