For those that haven't been keeping up on the news, Nintendo of America will be altering a scene from the upcoming Fire Emblem game to reflect a more consumer friendly mentality: www.gamespot.com/articles/fire-emblem-fates-controversial-scene-changed-for-/1100-6434035/A good friend of mine on Youtube offered his thoughts in his weekly podcast here to which I am inclined to agree with. It's understandable that Nintendo of America appeals more to a young consumer base that is sensitive to these types of matters but games with an emphasis on narrative should be looked at as art-forms that should not be altered from their original forms lest the creator's vision be tampered with. Of course, it may be a bit soon to come to a full consensus on the matter and the integrity of the scene is probably not imperative in the grand scale of the game but from what we can speculate, what are your thoughts on the matter?

Ok, so while this isn't a scene everyone will see - there are many characters in the game so you might not choose that one for the protagonist - but this says they may have done far worse in this same game... Personally speaking, I won't buy any of Nintendo's systems if they don't improve: - their network/store/account system; - their attitude, which may very well keep people from buying Fire Emblem Fates.

Doesn't affect my likelihood to play Fire Emblem Fates. I enjoy that series immensely and would have picked it up either way.

That's interesting 'cause last year they were praised for not blocking that, even Reggie came out on the news thanking the applauds. I wonder what made them change their minds all of the sudden. Honestly I don't mind, but I can see where people could get upset for this.

Nintendo in general has had a rather silly attitude lately towards "localisation" aka censorship. They censored a tiny part of fatal frame even though the game was M rated.

Lame. It reminds me of how Sega, Capcom and Konami used to censor their games for western audiences, only this sounds like it's even worse, since they're censoring it before it has even been released.
Censorship sucks.

The scene in question is in tact in the Japanese version, which is why people got mad

I'm going to be honest. I feel I want Fire Emblem Fates even though I don't own a 3DS. I'd only buy it if I get the full cartridge, though, not the scam they're doing with the separate cartridges for parts of the same game.
But the thing is, the 2 scenes which are censored most likely wouldn't be seen because the characters involved aren't interesting enough for anyone to pair with the protagonist. My issue is if they go and change something like making it unable to marry the siblings, by far the best designed characters ingame.

Never accept censorship, or that's all you will ever get.

Kind of hard to not accept censorship, Mister Xiado . Sony used to censor games out of Ps1 and even Ps2 if I'm not mistaken due to their lewd lack of 3D. So buying any Nintendo system, Playstation 1 and 2, and often times simply living in Germany and Australia is already condoning censorship.

I find that censorship tends to get over emphasised when referring to Australia. As someone who lives there, we never had a situation where people just sat down and shook their head disapprovingly when shot, or turned into robots. Most recent high profile censor I can think of lately was the hotline Miami 2 classification refusal, where the person in charge of judging the content flat out lied about what they saw. Nevertheless I managed to buy the game through a steam sale loophole.

Now it looks like face petting is out as well. Doesn't seem like a feature I'd miss in the slightest but it's optional so don't really get the need for it to be removed.

There is a Fire Emblem fan translation out there, with no removed content. I may yet go sailing again.

Well in a way it is not so bad for us considering how Japanese porn gets mutilated by censorship and condoms.

Nintendo has always been really conservative about content in the west, so its not like this is a surprising decision or anything. They famously had the blood censored in the original Mortal Kombat, after all.
