Game Discussion of The Week: Halo 3

I originally didn't know what to pick this week, but seeing as Halo 3 turns 10 years old today, we have to have it.

Halo 3 is a very fun and refined game. I enjoyed it more than 2, though I'm sorry to say that I've barely spent any time playing with friends.

Halo CE is still SSS tier for me though; I'd say that Halo 3 is second only to CE. Haven't played anything beyond 3.

Considering it's so dirt cheap to acquire these days, I say it's a much own. There's so much fun to be had with the multiplayer alone, provided you have buddies to play with locally. There's really no reason not to buy it.

It's been many, many years since I've played Halo 3's multiplayer so I can't really comment on it. In terms of singleplayer though, it's the absolute pinnacle of modern shooters in my opinion. Mechanics that don't work well in other modern shooters (2 weapon carry limit, vehicles, ) actually work well in Halo. The levels are huge and you don't always feel like you're being led through a corridor. Co-op mode is such a blast that I think every red-blooded man owes it to himself to play it with a friend in at least one point in his life.

My beef with the game is that some of the weapons are completely ineffectual, which lessens the amount of weapons you'll use and can make gameplay rather repetitive at times as a result. Speaking of repetitive, the flood enemies are just as much of a buzzkill as they were in previous games. Also, when you play on higher difficulties you'll begin to realize just how broken and nonsensical the checkpoint system is.
