Freddy 1, starring Freddy, rules. It's one of two Johnny Depp movies I actually like, and it also has the guy who played Roper in Enter The Dragon.

I only like three movies in this series: 1, 3 and Wes Craven's New Nightmare. This one is easily the best of them.

It's a pretty terrifying concept: a serial child killer comes back to prey on kids in their dreams. He literally steals their dreams from them before murdering them - the ultimate violation. Prone in their beds, Freddy's coming for them the second they doze off like a subconscious monster hiding in the closet.

cobretti - Just out of curiosity: which is the other Johnny Depp movie you like? (Disclaimer: IMO, Depp could be a good actor if it wasn't for his heavy reliance on gimmicky make-ups - as it is, there's not much acting under all those "wacky visuals" of his characters, though I do like his work in the first Pirates of the Caribbean and Edward Scissorhands.)

Finally a movie I have watched! A Nightmare On Elm Street has what I look for the most in a horror movie, I don't really care for real-world based serial killers in movies. The funny thing for me is that Freddy went on to become my favorite horror character with just a single movie, because only after he was my favorite I went on to watch the second movie and that's it!
I really want to watch Dream Warriors as a lot of people say that's their favorite movie in the series.
Talk about that, I was playing Deception IV: Nightmare Princess in the weekend.

Dream Warriors was much more of a true sequel than the second was. Although I found the homosexual overtones and camp of the second movie funny and entertaining, Freddy’s motivations didn’t exactly make a lot of sense. No one has ever outright said it, but I always thought the Freddy 2 was a different movie that thy turned into a Freddy movie quickly to capitalize on the success of the first. It would have been remembered more fondly had it not been a Freddy movie. Dream Warriors actually continues the storyline of the first, brings back surviving characters from the first, and has the Freddy attitude I like from the later movies. And it has a soundtrack featuring Dokken and everyone loves Dokken.

But I like what the second movie is. I remember watching that movie with my father, and both of us were overwhelmingly disturbed (and kind of amused too) by what takes place in there. After watching it I noticed that I might either not have caught what it was about or I simply didn't want to believe what it was about, and I love that the movie did that. Freddy wasn't a regular character in it; he was more similar to a demon, or a stand/persona, because he has no real motivation in it, he's just a part of the protagonist's personality. Another thing that I like about the second movie is how it could never be remade in 2017 and likewise in the near future, because the primary villain was homosexuality; and that's something that audiences would hate to see nowadays, and to be honest I wouldn't want to see it portrayed the way it was in the movie, but holy shit that was a really interesting direction.

Freddy 2 really should be up with Sleepaway Camp as one of the greatest “kind of gay but campy in a fun way” sub genre of horror movies. It’s certainly the only movie that’s been made that’s bogged down by Freddy. I mean, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Freddy is the big failing of the movie. His motivation and methods are so out of step with what was established before. Why does a being that can invade the dreams of his victims need a flesh and blood avatar in the real world to kill on his behalf? And yeah, when I first saw the movie as a kid, I had no clue what was going on in Freddy 2. I had no concept of that stuff. The gay leather bar was just a bar. The leather daddy gym teacher was just an asshole. The kid had a hot girlfriend. No way was he into dudes despite running away from her before he was going to seal the deal, just to run into his shirtless buddies’ room. When he said “I want to sleep with you”, he just wanted to have a sleep over, of course. He was afraid of Freddy after all!

I don't think any movie portraying homesexuality as ugly, bad, and dumb would survive nowadays.
