I recently did a video in defense of Kirby 64 as a Kirby title but maybe it is more positively received than I first thought. What's interesting though is that it still rarely comes up in conversation.
It seems like people don't pay much attention to the game because it didn't really do much for the franchise. In spite of that, I love the concepts present in the game and how it takes full advantage of the N64 hardware.
What are your thoughts on this sleeper Kirby title? Are people sleeping on it or should it keep sleeping?

I remember enjoying it originally, and quite liked combining powers. Played it a few years ago on the virtual console, and had fun, but it did seem to play a bit on the slow side.

I feel that's the games greatest setback is that to achieve the effect of making the game's world hold up to the likes of Mario and Zelda on the 64, they sacked Kirby's running speed to that of a waddle and his floating speed to that of a bubble. That's actually why I like the ice skate power-up so much. I wouldn't mind doing an entire playthrough just on skates.

"Even though Kirby does kinda suck, doesn't mean this game does."

Kirby never sucked. I still need to find a bad Kirby game. They are all excellent. He is just pink so macho people think it makes then feel like little girls. They need to grow up, Kirby is badass. Not liking Kirby is just a sign of someone not confident with their masculinity. Once you overcome that limitation you won't be able to go back. The same goes with Yoshi.

I'd say just not talked about - I never knew Kirby 64 existed.

The series is actually a bit too good though to the point of hurting the '64 version's credibility. Damn shame because this is one of the most ballsy and heroic* titles I've played in the franchise. *shoutouts scarecrowchan

I love Kirby 64. Still play it now and then. The artstyle can be a bit vapid sometimes (at least in comparison to Kirby Dreamland 3), but the gameplay is fun and I like the music a lot. I have a lot of nostalgia for the game. Although I do agree that the gameplay feels rather slow.
The only other Kirby game I've spent a significant amount of time with is Nightmare in Dreamland, which I also enjoyed a lot.

We must've grew up with video games at right about the same time since that is pretty much the other Kirby game I grew up with.

It's a good game. It is a bit on the slow side and doesn't have co-op(I actually could've swore it did because I thought I played with my brother as a kid and the second player was a yellow Kirby) which might hold it back for a lot of people. Seems like not as many people are familiar with it as other Kirby games as well so maybe a bit of both.
