Look at the second video from the top to see the differences I'm experiencing. RGB is light years ahead of composite. Linking from YouTube fucking sucks on mobile.

I think the confusion here is that Balder is talking about using RGB on an HDTV, and Armored Core Raven is talking about using it on a CRT. But I could be wrong. Lots of helpful info on this topic though. That may well be the case. But I thought it was obvious I was talking about HD TVs since I was talking about HDMI and upscalers.

You copy the link and then paste in: (video src="link goes here")(/video). Just use "[ ]" instead of "( )". I use mobile 99% of the time. It works every time.

Well, from what I've tested the difference is night and day. The last time I saw such an upgrade was when I went from using component to HDMI on my 360. And I think your choices of cables are very weird if you're not using HDMI on your PS3. Why would anyone in their right mind choose S-video over HDMI on a 7th gen console? When I said I was using SCART for my PS3 (and Gamecube and Wii) it's because I have an SDTV, not an HDTV, so HDMI is not an option for me. Additionally, like I've mentioned a few times before in other threads, I prefer CRT SDTVs because they are superior for compatibility with older consoles, they fill my needs for what I look for in a TV better than flat screen and/or HDTVs do, and because I mostly play retro games far more often than I play modern stuff it's an easy win for what is best for the old over what is best for the new.

CRTs are great for retro consoles, but with the OSSC, retro game consoles look just as great on modern TVs. 7th gen consoles however, looks like shit on CRTs. Even though owning a CRT would be cool, they're incredibly impractical as they weigh a ton, take up too much space, need to coexist with a modern TV and aren't easily replaced if you want a good one.

I upgraded to RGB SCART a few years ago with new cables from a company in the UK for my Genesis and Super Nintendo and I'm glad that I did. It really makes the Genesis display that "High Definition" that it advertises on the console. The SNES still looks a little more blurry than the Genesis, but what can you do. The colors are amazingly vibrant. A clear improvement over S-Video and miles away from the blurry mess that is composite. I'd never go back.
Armored Core Raven is right that you have to have everything turned off when plugging / unplugging the system from the TV, but that's not a problem. I didn't notice a poorer sound quality, but I guess it's possible. They still sound good to me, though.
Anyway, none of this is really on topic, which I think is more about upscalers. I play my systems on an RGB monitor, so the scanlines are all real (and they're spectacular btw). If I ever had to get rid of the monitor - and it'd be a shame, but it really is a pain to move with - then I'd run RGB to an upscaler for sure. Once you've seen RGB, everything else is just nostalgia as far as I'm concerned.

Composite is absolute shite compared to RGB.

Lots of helpful info on this topic though. I guess he means on a CRT, but my experiences on that end are a spot different. I don’t have a PVM but my Sony CRT has component and I use an SCART though a relatively inexpensive RGB to component converter and the difference is night and day compared to composite. My Saturn and Genesis games never looked better. The pixels and sharp and the colors are vibrant. It’s incredible.

I find this conversation interesting, but isn't Balder converting the signal to HDMI?

I’ve always been a fan of Sony products. Not their gaming consoles all of the time, but their other products have always treated me right. I even liked my old mini disc player.

I find this conversation interesting, but isn't Balder converting the signal to HDMI? Yeah I am, but it doesn't have any lag what so ever. Instead of upscaling it to 1080p, the OSSC doubles the pixels. You can end up with some weird resolutions, but as long as your TV accepts the signal, it looks amazing.
