A note about the left joy con buttons in hand held mode.

I just thought I'd mention that I picked up Shantae: Half Genie Hero on the Switch recently, and have been playing mostly in hand-held mode. I've tried using the left stick as well as the left-buttons and I have to say...the left buttons actually function as a pretty decent d-pad.
I suspected this, and have noted it in other threads, but this was my first chance to try it out. They remind of the playstation d-pad, though spaced slightly further apart. They seem to be plenty precise, at least for my fat fingers. I suspect this might be different for 2-D fighters, but I would encourage any Switch owners to give it a shot for 2-D platformers (Shantae, Shovel Knight, Blaster Master, etc).
