What do you guys think about this concept? I find it very interesting, because it can help kids dive into the realm of creativity. I don't know if it will just be a fad, but I think my kids might like it. I'm not sure though.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS AND WHY DO I WANT IT SO MUCH?
I think it's a great concept. It probably won't work exactly as depicted (I still remember the "Nintendo Revolution" trailer at E3 2005...), but it still seems like a cool concept that might be a lot of fun.

Cool idea, even for adults. Creativity is like a muscle as well, we have to exercise it or it goes flacid.

Of course, the major problem will be wear and tear; but then, the cardboard is easily replaceable. Once you have the software installed, I suppose you can build as many replacements as you want with your own cardboards.

At least since it's mostly cardboard it can be insanely cheap, like a few cents per thing at most, if any higher they should be ashamed of themselves and the people who buy it should be shot.

It looks pretty neat from the trailer, though not something I have much interest in. I suspect if I were in the 8-10 range, I'd go nuts for something like this.

So are people going to be homebrewing software and 3d printing crazy stuff for the Switch? I can see this becoming a type of cult hobby with competitions 10 years from now.

Ah, good old Nintendo.
Just when we thought the Switch was their console for the "core gamer," they bring it back to their old ways. There's no swaying them. Nintendo firmly believes that real success comes from something outside of the video game market, like Grandmas who miss bowling or kids who like cardboard.
Seriously, though, I would have been excited as a kid. It's like R.O.B. but D.I.Y. Hopefully it's easy to assemble or parents are gonna have some frustrated tikes on their hands. God help them. I'll predict a Switch price drop for holiday season 2018 bundled with Cardboard Fun Time to be sold out everywhere that quality cardboard products are sold.

Dan E. Kool - Well, Nintendo has a history with their paper models. I think they still have a strong heritage as a toy maker, that's why they bring things like this. You have to give it to them that they could just sit on the Switch's success, but instead they still keep pushing for new things. At least it's a completely accessory thing, it's not a stupid central part in a new console like the Wii/U controllers. Armored Core Raven - I'm guessing any price will be mostly for the software/cartridge, but who knows. I also only see this working if it's very, very cheap. Edit: What might make shit hit the fan is if faulty models make the console/controllers fall to the ground and break. That would make a lot of people furious.

Hey, I liked the usage of the Wii U controller and the games (when it wasn't thrown in there). The map functionality with Xenoblade Chronicles X was great. I also loved using it with Batman: Arkham Asylum. When done right, it was a great idea. When it was thrown in as a gimmick, it was stupid, lazy programming.Edit: What might make shit hit the fan is if faulty models make the console/controllers fall to the ground and break. That would make a lot of people furious. My daughter threw a joy con straight across the room, and I damn near had a heart attack. It still works fine!

My daughter threw a joy con straight across the room, and I damn near had a heart attack. It still works fine! Oh man, I can only imagine the pain! I do agree that Wii U controller could do great things - it was supposed to bring to consoles the DS/3DS experience, basically, and I love the dual screen setup of those portables (I was actually disappointed that the Switch ditched the second screen). The problem is that, while on the DS the dual screens are an integral part of most games, on the Wii U they rarely ever made games actually designed to use two screens, so it just became gimmicky.

So, are Nintendo tapping into the market for educational/developer apps, normally reserved for Android?

Well they had those art drawing software titles for quite some time. During the Wii U era people that had their drawing software claim they learned to draw things they never felt capable of doing before. Also those brainy games like Bran Age were even recommended by doctors and probably Wii Fit at some point. About toys Amiibo, is definitely making money for them or they would had stop releasing them long time ago.

Ayuh, so I've gathered. The NES was sold in the toy section of stores back in the day, too. Nintendo is big on that Toys For All Ages thing that they do. I kid and I make fun, but honestly I can't hate. Labo Boxo isn't for kids of my age group, but it's thinking like this which makes Nintendo the company I love. The day they stop trying wild stuff like Cardboard Toy Cons is the day they die. You read it here first, folks!
