The show has been of the air for a whole year next week. I finally listened to the last episode and here is my thoughts on the whole thing.
I very mich enjoyed the Manthology Show, maybe even more so than CGR 2085. It was always very fun and lighthearted, even to the bitter end (which is a huge contrast if you compare it to the later 2085 episodes, which were just filled with complaining and negativity). Derek was a funny guy even when he joked about how terrible his life was, which is very sad to hear after reading his Zelda review. The show had a very broad appeal as they discussed basically anything. It was such a great show. Their biggest mistake though was calling it The Manthology Show. The title really doesn't do it justice. Blake and Josh were also pretty cool guys. Sad to say I never listened to the show when it came out. In hindsight I would much rather support these guys than Mark.

I really tried hard to like it, but it felt like it was just a bunch of guys who barely prepared to talk about random things. Maybe they put more effort into the later episodes, but I think I only got to episode 4 or 5. I couldn't take it much after that, so I stopped listening. I'm glad he tried, but I hope Derek moves on to something new. I really like the guy, and I want to see him succeed.

I just want to go on the record and say that I love the CGR 2085 podcast, and much of that love comes from the high production value. The Manthology Show has a lower production value and is largely improvised, but it's carried by the wits and personalities of its cast. Perhaps it's because of the age difference that you didn't get so invested in it, but I found it very interesting as they are close to my age.

The problem with his podcast is that it was audio only. To succeed in YouTube he needed video.
Lighting is not even hard these days. It's easy to get a few reflectors, a decent 1080p camera, a microphone for each one, a table or a sofa, and they would be all set. Maybe a few posters behind and perhaps a plant, that was all they needed.
I guaranteed the channel would still be up, and by now with at leats 12,000 loyal subscribers and perhaps another 24,000 wishy washy subscribers here and there.

It wasn't even a YouTube centric show. It was a Patreon and iTunes show. Even CGR doesn't get 24 000 views on anything anymore. Ans if you listened to the show you would know that they weren't in the same city when recording.

It wasn't even a YouTube centric show. It was an iTunes show. Yes, that is exactly my point, it was doomed from the start. If they were in separate cities there are ways around them, but not as effective as being in the same room.

I agree that it would be better if they were in the same room, but most podcasts survive without video.

I agree that it would be better if they were in the same room, but most podcasts survive without video. Not if you aspire significant growth on YouTube. The YouTube focusing would had made a big difference.

Mark had too high of expectations. Also his format is not viral friendly. Sadly viral friendly formats are not necessarily good content. If you already have a base that is used to something specific, they expect that, and that can stop you from doing other things.

Any word yet on what Derek's opinion on Mark's move to Amazon Prime?

Any word yet on what Derek's opinion on Mark's move to Amazon Prime? They just worked together. Apparently they were not really friends.
