I play games with controllers, not keyboard and mouse. They are used to use hotkeys and shit. I'm just slower due to not using that control setup for games. PCs support pads right? So use a pad. Do you need that many inputs?

Do you need that many inputs? They would kill me even faster then (you really need accuracy when commanding units). Have you played RTSs against people who play them regularly? They're on a completely different level.

No, I'm not into RPGs. Online I only do fighters, and even those I prefer locally for the lack of lag. Don't you do FPS online? What's the difference?

stratogustav - This is how fast professional RTS players can be: You can't do any of that on a pad (lack of buttons and lack of mouse's speed/precision). Of course, this is a video of top players, but even "just" very skilled ones are on a level that you just can't compete by casually playing one of these games. RTS is a genre that looks absolutely daunting to me.

Yes I play FPS games online, but that's on console. It's completely different.

Do you need that many inputs? Most real time strategy games are impossible to play effectively with gamepads. it's essentially a point-and-click genre. There are some exceptions (like Herzog Zewi on the Genesis/Mega Drive, which Mark is a big fan of), but most RTSGs won't play that easily with a pad. It's a genre that was designed specifically for the PC. Even the ones that don't use hot keys (like Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, a personal favorite of mine) still require you to drag the cursor to select characters and such, which is garunteed to be a much slower and sloppier process with a joystick. Anyway, I've never played a single Sid Meier game, and I'm not even sure which one to start with since he's made so many games by now.
