A little late to the party, but here's my review of perhaps the most anticipated movie of the year:
"
Hmm... This is not going to be a concise review as I am quite unsure what I really think about the whole thing. Instead I am going to list what I think was good, bad and neutral. This is typically a bad sign as the only times I have had these feelings were for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Rouge One and The Last Jedi, all of which are movies that I hate. However, I do think this is better than those. Therefore I will still rate this movie, despite being very unsure of it.
The Good:
- The making of Stormbreaker is fucking awesome. Pairing Thor with Rocket and Groot may seem like a weird choice, but it works out big time. Especially with the unexpected Peter Dinklage. Terrific, maybe my favorite part in the whole movie.
- Thanos characterization was surprisingly good, and that is vital for this film to work. Everything is explained, and it is quite great. Such a badass dude.
- The humor was luckily not Disney-fied. It was not overly funny, but the jokes that were made were mostly good ones. So glad it did not end up being a terrible quip-fest like so many other Disney movies.
- Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Quill and Drax being teamed up was also a good pairing. Quite interesting to watch their synergy, especially Doctor Strange (I felt he would be the odd one out, but he was great). Their abilities were well put together and complemented each other.
- War Machine was surprisingly cool, despite having a small role. Good on him.
The Bad:
- Scarlet Which and Vision might be my least favorite characters in all of MCU. So damn boring and their relationship is so lame. A pity that the movie sinks so much time into these fucks. It all ends up as a cat and mouse game and in the end I just prayed it would be over.
- Captain America is incredibly underused to the point where I am truly disappointed in the Russo brothers, who have made him much cooler in the past. First off, he never gets his shield. What the fuck guys, seriously? It sorely impair his fighting style, making him boring to watch. Also, he does not do anything interesting. This is my favorite character in all of MCU, and this is it?
- The Hulk is cut off for no reason. One cool scene and that is it? I do not give a flying fuck about the Hulk Buster with Mark Ruffalo, give me the hulk damn it! Also, Buck just felt like a goon. All he did was shoot with a rifle. He should not have even been in the movie.
- Ant-Man and Nick Fury basically missing. What gives? Lame after credit scene, except for the hilarious mother fu...
- Thanos goons being uninspired. They were just basically goons.
- All of the deaths seem pointless as so many sequels have been announced. None of it carry any weight since they obviously will not stay dead.
The Neutral:
- Black Widow, Gamorra, The Red Skull, Loki, the alien woman from GoG, Black Panther were not good or bad.
- The Phantom Menace Gungan battle rip-off
All in all this movie sits in a weird place. Ending seemed fine, but Avengers 4 should be the next film, not Ant-Man and Captain Marvel. Just feels weird to have 2 whole movies in between this huge cliffhanger. It gets a 3.5/5 for now. I do not know if that is too good or too bad of a score. It met my expectations, but not my hopes."
What do you guys think?
