Surprising, to say the least.

It's an action-RPG spinoff, and so far not looking very good from the demo but it's a ways from release so hopefully there will be improvements. Supposed to be another demo in summer.

I've heard their sales on pc were really, REALLY good, especially for a game that was already six years old (in three months, it sold 650 000 copies on Steam). That probably was a factor in the renewed interest Sega is showing for the series. Maybe that will be an incentive for them to port and localize the sequels? One can dream.
About Azure Revoution, here's a gameplay video:
I don't mind it being an action RPG as long as it's well-made enough. I just hope Sega takes more care of this series than what they did to Shining Force...

That's also the demo footage I watched. What exactly doesn't look good about it? If you ask me this immediately has more potential then Valkyria Chronicles, at least.

Wow, barely legal teens using oversized swords... that's original.

I think that first we could look at the actual news piece. Now, as for opinions, there's that part that... You know, the reason why it took me so long to get Valkyria Chronicles in the first place is that it's a knockoff of WWII. So the series was mostly cliché to begin with, it's not like fans would be disserviced by using old ideas. What does concern me is the word "RPG". I mean, it gets thrown around a lot - Valkyria Chronicles itself contains no RPG element - but what if developers are actually investing on RPG elements for Azure Revolution?

I LOVED Valkyria Chronicles. The art direction, the storyline, the gameplay... this is not anything out there like it. And the fact that it is now going to be just like every generic JRPG out there is rather sad.

But what if it turns out to be good?

Some of these RPG have awesome artwork I just wish the action was more free, and that you could actually go Commando or Berzerk.
Which makes me want a console release for a Bullet Girls game, I doubt it will happen though. It seems that they are sticking with the handheld market.

"Good" and "Special" are different things. I would encourage people who don't normally play video games to try Valkyria Chronicles or anyone with a PS3. I can only say that for a few titles.
I, for one, look forward to May when my pre-order of the PS4 remaster comes.

I think you guys are dooming the game too early.

I think you guys are dooming the game too early. You are right, and I will give it a fair shake when it comes out. But Sega doesn't exactly have the best record with their recent releases.

I guess I convinced scipioafricanus. What a turn of events! Because I think I might have unconvinced myself... Read this: gematsu.com/2016/05/valkyria-azure-revolution-made-more-rpg-like-result-demo-feedback(At this date there are updates on that piece.) So, I think that RPG is the hardest genre to develop games in, and the Action-RPG hybrid can often be cumbersome too, remember how Dragon's Dogma didn't win many people over at release? I was ok with SEGA taking the risk and making an action-RPG out of Valkyria Chronicles, but seeing them take that back and change it to an RPG, in other words: from Rising to Revengeance; leaves me concerned it won't be a good product. The situation is also worse with SEGA, as they are going from a very hard to develop game to an insanely hard to develop game... I don't know anymore, man...

spidershinobi - But the changes may be good. A well-realized gauge-based battle system can be fun (I'm thinking something like Parasite Eve or the Seiken Densetsu series) and I liked that now it's possible to customize your partners AI and give them direct orders. Most importantly, it seems the developers care about the game instead of just releasing it in any state, which is good. EDIT: Going by the demo footage, I'm absolutely convinced that most of their problems would have gone away if they kept the game as a shooter instead of focusing on mellee. The mellee combat looks sluggish - the animations are too slow and there's seemingly no strategy to it. I mean, the shooting parts were already well-realized in the other games (and it actually looks fun when they're shooting here!), so they could just have focused on that if they wanted to turn it into an action game.
