This week I'd like to discuss the animated series The Amazing Screw-On Head. It was a 1 episode pilot that never took off, based on a comic book that also never took off.

A very funny and well written series. While I don't like the art direction, which is too flat and unrefined for my taste and is average by comic book animation standards (I've never been a fan of Mike Mignola's artwork), the writing, humor and voice casting is truly top notch. In reality it's much more of a comedy than an action or sci-fiction series. It's a shame it never was produced beyond the single pilot.
I give The Amazing Screw On Head a 4/5 for its witty script alone. Good show. Not great, but good for sure.

::::::::::SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THE EPISODE::::::::::
I gave the pilot episode a watch and while the main character Screw-On Head himself didn't do it for me at all I really like Patience, she was fun and I like rats so she definitely hit home with me, I'd love a show about her instead, I like the main bad guy, voiced by David Hyde Pierce, he was fun, and the other remaining human characters didn't do enough to really leave an imprint, they could've been removed entirely and it would've been better for it, less characters that waste screen time for no good reason, I liked the older lady who turned into a huge werewolf, that was cool, and the big demon monster that got unleashed was fun too.
The constantly regurgitated "america is great" crap got annoying instantly and had they gone with a fictional president rather than Beardy McHatHead it would've felt a lot less "america in great", which would've been a huge improvement as well.
The art style was a mixed bag, I have no huge problem with comic book art styles when they're done well enough but this wasn't the best quality example of such a style, some few select parts looked good, most others didn't.
Had they fixed most or preferably all of those problems it could've been a really good show, but as it stands I wouldn't have bothered much with a whole series if it stayed close to the pilot.
