There's a new Octopath Traveler demo up on the eShop. It lets you play the prologue chapter for any of the 8 main characters (which takes about an hour) and then explore the world a bit for up to 3 hours total on a single save file. The data is then transferable to the main game when released. You can start again for another character, but there's only a single save slot.
I think Olberic and Primrose's prologues are pretty close to the previous demo. For this one, I've only tried Ophelia so far, but I intend to go through the others.
For anyone who hasn't given this a look, it is from some of the same people who did Bravely Default and Bravely Second on the 3DS, with some similar mechanics, and a neat "HD Sprite" look. Here's the recent E3 trailer:

I should give it a try. I know I can at least handle an hour of RPG gameplay. I'll probably end up liking it. Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes they put demos like the Mario Tennis one, just to fool you. At the end you end downloading the demo to accomplish nothing. It doesn't even let you play.

So I played the heck out of this demo. Definitely a nice freebie.
I played 6 out of 8 of the prologues with just 1 character each time. Then beginning with Olberic and Primrose (whose opening chapters were in the earlier demo) I set about seeing how many characters I could recruit in the 3 hour time limit. I got through 4 full prologue chapters (skipping most of the cutscenes in this case), picking up a party of Olberic the knight, Primose the dancer, Alfyn the apothecary, and Therion the thief. I had just started H'aanit the huntress' prologue when I hit the 3 hour limit, and I'm greatly looking forward to the full game.
I was pleased with how combat scales in both complexity and difficulty as more characters are added to the party. Figuring out how different groupings of characters compliment each other seems like it is going to be a lot of fun.
I really liked seeing all of the environments as well. I've mentioned this before, but the whole world has the look of a pixelated, but gorgeous pop-up storybook.

So there is a 3 hour limit? Once it's over, can you start again? I think I want to give it a try. Just to see if I can understand the gameplay.

The demo is amazing. If this is any indication of how good the full game is, I'm super impressed. I haven't put much time in it yet, but what I've played so far looks and sounds great. "Pixelated, pop-up storybook" is exactly how it looks. They've taken the 2D throwback that so many others have and really made it their own. stratogustav the Mario Tennis demo was a limited time tournament. It went on for a weekend. I got a couple hours play in and it was a lot of fun.

The World Cup has been stealing most of my time, it's also Sunday so I'll watch the F1 race, but I already started a run with the dancer, she got slapped in the face and she was cool about it, it looks like it has a heavy story.
