This week we're going to discuss film maker Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame (as well as all his earlier work that was vastly overshadowed by the aforementioned trilogy of films). How do you feel about him as a director? As a writer? Has he gotten better at his craft over time? Or, worse? Did you know he made films before LOTR? Discuss.

He was great early on with Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles and Braindead being three of the best movies ever made, the only good he's made after that was his version of King Kong, which is okay at best, I like it as much as I like the newer Kong Skull Island, which was also only okay at best.
He ruined Lord of the Rings for me, the one and only good Lord of the Rings movie remains Ralph Bakshi's animated classic masterpiece.

I like stuff related to Lord Of The Rings, specially music, but the movies didn't hit home with me as they did with other people.
Here is a song I really like about Lord Of The Rings by one of my favorite German bands, Blind Guardian, from their 1990 album "Tales From The Twilight World":
I like the part when he yells "mordor", the song is very good.

Had to look up who that was, turns out he wasn't in Ralph Bakshi's version either.

He ruined Lord of the Rings for me, the one and only good Lord of the Rings movie remains Ralph Bakshi's animated classic masterpiece. THIS THIS THIS!!!!!!!!!! I feel EXACTLY the same way. So many of Jackson's pre-LOTR films were the best of their kind- Meet the Feebles is the best dark comedy I've ever seen, Braindead is the best horror-comedy I've seen (as well as the only whore-com I really like), and I've heard greats things about The Frighteners and Heavenly Creatures as well. These were truly one-of-a-kind films and his post-Frighteners films are neither as original nor do they carry over Jackson's signature twisted sense of humor which made Meet the Feebles and Braindead such wildly entertaining classics. It breaks my heart that he went mainstream just for the sake of earning more, but as much as I dislike the style of his newer films, I do have a few nice things to say about some of them. For starters, The Fellowship of the Rings is the only LOTR film I really like and has one of the most interesting opening scenes of any film IMO. And his version of King Kong had incredible visuals & art direction. Neither of these two films rank anywhere near my list of favorites, but I'm glad I saw them. I'm sorry to say that I have never seen Ralph Bakshi's LOTR but I do plan to watch it eventually, if I can find the DVD or someone uploads it to Youtube. It saddens me when such talented individuals turn into hacks, like Jackson has.

Oh man, Braindead is SO great! It's the closest I can think of an Evil Dead film without being actually Evil Dead. Too bad Jackson decided to invest his career in huge, epic movies.
I do like his LotR a lot, but I wish it he had went back to lower-budget, more out-there films after it.

Bad Taste and Dead Alive/Braindead were great. And the LotR movies are decent. King Kong was passable. Haven't seen The Hobbit movies. I guess overall, he's alright. Has he done anything since The Hobbit movies?

Over 100 million people died in WWI. I don't think any film or video game could ever give it justice, but I appreciate they are at least trying. He using real footage is simply the closest thing we can ever get to the real deal, and I really applaud that effort.

Peter Jackson was responsible for this and he will always get his props from me just for this amazing scene.
