This week I wanted to discuss gaffer and lighting consultant Bill O'Leary, also known as William S. O'Leary or sometimes just "Bill". He is known from 82 separate productions, both on television and the big screen, including such titles as Blade Runner 2049, The Avengers, Spider-Man 2, and The Big Lebowski. How do you feel about Bill? Was his work better before or after being subjected to Jeff Bridge's lack of charisma? Discuss.

He came. He gaffed. He conquered.

I mean, anyone that worked on Blade Runner is legendary in my book. Also, the lighting on Jeff Bridges was pretty good when he was being charismatic.

The greatest lighting specialist is and will always be Mother Nature. Her bolts of lightning illuminate the Earth like no other.

Anyone that was capable to work around Jeff Bridges lack of charisma and still managed to deliver something people can watch deserves admiration.

Bill O'Leary is unquestionably one of if not THE absolute WORST lighting specialist in all of Hollywood.
But he wasn't always the thorn in the side of true Lighting Aficionados like myself. O'Leary's work as Best-Boy in the Sid Vicious biopic "Sid and Nancy", for example, was some of the best best-boy work that the industry has ever seen. I haven't seen it myself yet, but that's what I heard. I've also heard greats things about his Lighting Consultation work on "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" as well. His lighting work in those films was truly inspired.
Unfortunately after those great successes and DECADES of others, Bill turned his back on his real fans and went completely mainstream, probably for that lucrative lighting money. He sold out his artistic ability just for the sake of earning a higher salary.
It devastates me when such talented artists turn into total hacks, like O'Leary has. "The Irishman" in particular stands out as an example of how low his quality has come. It's still in post-production, but I am confident that his gaffer work will prove to be below average at best.
*For the record I am also against his number of children. I'm not sure how many offspring he has fathered, but I'm sure it's too many.
I loathe his new lighting style, I loathe his lack of artistic ambition in his current projects, I loathe his stupid face, I loathe his thirty years of success, but most of all, I LOATHE HIM with a red hot fiery passion.
People like Bill are the reason why I hate the lighting industry and the entire light spectrum as a whole.
