The co-developers of Street Fighter II and creators of the Street Fighter EX series are bringing a brand new sequel to the series with ALL the non-Street Fighter characters from those games, called Fighting EX Layer.
It has a little bit of the KOF IV engine look going for it. It also has brought back all the classic animations for those characters, and some new ones too.
I know some of you guys like the EX games, so I figured you may like to know about this one.

I don't like that this is digital only and full price. I am interested though, will get when it drops in price a bit.

Yeah, the full price I think is just to support the developers that are independent from Capcom since back in the day. If you are not a fan of the EX games as much, it is better just to wait. The game plays a lot like the classic EX games so it will also feel very different than other modern games.

My other thought is that it might end up getting a physical release in a few months, seen that happen with a lot of games the last few years. So I will wait and see if that happens. I actually liked the EX games from the little I played of them(never owned any myself).

I bought Sonic Mania digitally on the NS because they said there was not going to be a physical release. Now they announced one called Sonic Mania Plus, and I wish I would had waited for that instead. The same thing happened with Raiden V Director's Cut, I saw the physical copy on Best Buy and I felt bad I didn't wait for it.

I don't mind so much with Sonic Mania since it was only 20 bucks and the new version has extra content. But I'd be pretty annoyed if I spent 60 just to have a physical release(possibly with no new content) announced a few months later.

Also after reading some into the game, seems it's a bit lacking in content like Street Fighter V was at launch. I'm not into online enough to get $60 worth.

It comes with 12 characters, and developers said they may add more in the future depending of the reception.
If you think of how fighting games used to be, that is already a complete game. It's just that we are so far ahead into most fighting series that characters have started to stack up and some games like KOF IV ship with 50 characters, Super Smash Ultimate will have at least 65 characters. So when we hear 12 characters it feels small, but that's just because we are spoiled.
I doubt the game will grow in content as Street Fighter V did because that's a whole different beast. For this it is more like what you see is what you get kind of thing, just like in the old days.

This has to be the most disappointing thing this year for me, and i didn't even pay much attention to the game. It has less content than SFV at launch. No story mode, no arcade mode and/or endings. No vs cpu, no stage select in 2p vs or training mode or kumite mode. The only offline mode the game has is kumite mode, and its basically survival, but hidden away inside training mode.
The gougi system is reminiscent of SFxT's gem system, and the gougi seems more P2W than the gem system. Did i mention the 1999 recycled sound bytes and animation? 🤔 Oh, and it comes int 2 SKUs, a 'light version' with fewer gougi decks and one character missing fkr 39$,and the other SKU costs 60$ and comes with every character.

Honestly I don't mind the lack of modes, except for the arcade mode. That one is important, and just like I was upset about it with Street Fighter it is a massive let down for any fighting game to ship without it. At least in Street Fighter there was a proper survival mode, not hidden in practice, but in this case I feel it is over the top not to have it.
Unless you are a fan of the classic EX games and you don't mind playing with real people like back in the day on the arcades, it is better to wait with the hope that an arcade mode would be added, but considering how small the devs are, there is a chance it may not even happen.

If the game cost 20$ i'd be down, but 40$ and 60$ are just absurd for a barebones release. Street Fighter has the brand backing and can afford a bold move like this, but a relatively obscure name like Arika can't. I don't think the EX games are well liked tbh, aside from nostalgia anyway, during that time 2D SF was at its peak with cross overs and SF3/Alpha. I'll wait nd see how this unfolds.

Yes, EX were not from everyone, they were, and still are with the new game, a different kind of fighters.
Like I said, everyone knows this new game isn't worth that much in relation to other games we are used to get, the developers themselves know it.
This project is basically a Kickstarter, but instead they already have the final product, and somehow they still want to build on it. At least they were always upfront about it.
For most people it is better to wait, or to straight up pass, considering no real promises have been made.
