The Super Nintendo was my first console, so it plays a very special place in my heart.

These are the games I owned:

It is a small list because back in the day I was a kid, so I had to rely on the grown ups to buy me games.

There was no way for me to know if a game was going to be good or bad, so I end up with games like Double Dragon V, and Mario Is Missing, that at the time I didn't even recognize they were bad because as a kid I did enjoy them. I only knew they were bad until I grew up.

I also played many other games my neighbors would let me borrow, but the ones I listed here are the ones I actually owned.

Of course nowadays I have access to the entire Super Nintendo catalog digitally, but it is nice to remember the ones I actually end up collecting back in the day. They all belong to my brother now, and he lives in a different State, so now I have no other remedy than to find conform on my SNES Classic as a smaller substitution.

Edit: I just remember that ActRaiser and Batman Forever was never mine. I asked my brother and he reminded me. What happens is that those were some of the games we had for a while, but they belonged to two different neighbors.

So I guess that also reminds me I can name the games I never had, but that I still played thoroughly because of neighbors and friends.

The Super Nintendo was very popular among friends and neighbors during our childhood, so it was very easy for us to come by many games, otherwise we would never have a chance to play. Everyone was doing the same, so it was important to have your own games, that way you can get others too.

I still consider the Super Nintendo as the console I experienced more thoroughly. But there are many games I would have wanted to play back then, and that I never had the chance to do so.

My list is very small compared to what I had originally. I traded many games in to purchase games for newer systems, and I hate my former self for doing that. FunCo Land was much more fair than GameStop today, though...

Currently I have Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, NHL 94 (I still like it better than the Genesis version.), Super Mario All Stars, Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball, Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Star Fox.

The rest were traded in during the 1990s, except Final Fantasy III. My family believes that one of my brothers ex girl friends stole it after I left for the Marine Corps. She admitted to being a kleptomaniac after they dated, and she said that if she was in your house, she probably stole something. That was my favorite game of all time during my teenage years.

I remember there was Final Fantasy II and III, Chrono Trigger, Gradius III, Super Batter Up, both Griffey games, NHL '94, '95, '96, and 97, Killer Instinct, Mario Kart, Street Fighter II and Turbo, Clay Fighter TE, Cool Spot, Donkey Kong Country, Doom, Earthworm Jim 2, Megaman X, NBA Jam TE, NHL Stanley Cup, Ogre Battle, Outlander, Paperboy 2, Populous, Revolution X, the HIGHLY UNDERRATED Secret of Evermore, Sim City, The Simpsons: Bart's Nighmare (Although I' think I rented that one a lot. I don't know if we ever owned that one.), Super Mario RPG, Super Metroid, Super Punch Out, TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, one of the WWF games, and Yoshi's Cookie.

There may or may not have been more. My memory is fuzzy on games like the Super Star Wars series. I know my brothers and I rented them all the time, but I can't remember if we eventually bought them from FunCo Land.

I didn't have a Super Nintendo myself, so I never got that many games for it, I had a friend who had it as his main console though so I still got to play a lot of Super Nintendo games growing up.

At the moment I can find physical copies of these games in my home:

My list is fairly small as well, being a kid. Still thankful that my parents were willing to drop the cash for these in the 90's. My best friend and I traded back and forth a lot, so we tired to make sure to have different games. Wish we'd had a friend who was more into Sega to round out the experience.

Those are just 20, but there were more.

Interestingly enough neither the Saturn or the N64 followed that trend. Instead it was the PSOne that picked it up with the Tales series, the Star Ocean series, the Front Mission series, the Tactics Ogre series, the SaGa series, and many others that were already present for the Super Famicom.

The same thing happened with some series that were not even RPG like Mega Man X, Street Fighter, and even 2D Castlevania games. Although at least Castlevania had a Saturn port later on.

I think that makes a lot of sense considering the PSOne was made by Nintendo initially, and I imagine that's why the controller looks very similar.

I believe the Saturn lacked many RPGs because of Stolar's policy in the West, and the N64 because of the use of cartridges, that were more expensive to manufacture.

Games like Final Fantasy VII already came on many discs. Using cartridges would had cost a fortune for that genre on the N64, but the SNES didn't have that problem because of the use of artistic pixel art wasn't that demanding.

Yeah, the Super Nintendo was great for RPGs. I still play them today, so that's a testament to their longevity! I think the Nintendo knew it was lacking during the 64 years, and I'm pretty sure that the 64DD was intended to remedy that situation. To this day, I still love the concept. It is a shame that the R&D phase took too long to the point that it was obsolete when it finally hit the market in Japan.

As for the Super Nintendo, I have played a good majority of them, and I LOVED all of them. There was such a wide variety too. From Chrono Trigger to Populous to Secret of Mana to the Final Fantasy series. It was a great time in gaming. I only wish we got Seiken Densetsu 3. I know a fan translation exists, but the cart isn't cheap. I saw that they released it for the Switch in Japan, so here's to never ending hopes...
