I was watching YouTube and somehow this video was send my way.
I'm honestly amazed. After watching what he rightfully placed as number 1, my hope in huminaty has been officially restored.

I saw this video when it came out. It was really interesting despite not agreeing on everything. The weirdest one for me was that he didn't enjoy The Matrix that much. Wish he made another video where he talked about high regarded movies.

I love when James does a "sit in front of the camera" style video. He really knows how to speak without using much filler and also has a nice sense of composure. He did a great video on why he wouldn't see the new Ghostbusters that was very similar. I agree with some of the list but I really like The Big Lebowski. Part of the appeal is the randomness of it and Jeff Bridges as kind of just an everyday dude.

The weirdest one for me was that he didn't enjoy The Matrix that much. I think his disdain comes from the parodies and the copies. It has pretty much ruined what he could like of it. Hype can really hurt a movie.
I absolutely love the first movie, and I saw it 2-3 years after it came out in Japan. I had no prior knowledge to it, but once I watched it, I couldn't stop watching it. Now the sequels? Ugh...I watched the Matrix Reloaded in Afghanistan (or was it Uzbekistan? I can't recall anymore.), and when that cliff hanger ending ended with the credits, groans from thousands of soldiers, airmen, and Marines echoed throughout the countryside. What a lame movie.

I love that you posted this. I saw this when he first published this, and I just rewatched it last week with my son watching in the room. I forgot his #1 pick, and when he said it, I couldn't stop laughing. My son was confused, because nothing really funny had happened. I immediately thought of you and this forum.

I love that you posted this. I saw this when he first published this, and I just rewatched it last week with my son watching in the room. I forgot his #1 pick, and when he said it, I couldn't stop laughing. My son was confused, because nothing really funny had happened. I immediately thought of you and this forum. You just had the same effect on me after reading your comment. Thanks for that, haha. The weirdest one for me was that he didn't enjoy The Matrix that much. Wish he made another video where he talked about high regarded movies. I agree, but I think he is judging it from a cinematic perspective. The movie had awesome action moments, like all those 3rd person shooting scenes, the fighting one versus one scenes, and the bullet hell scenes, it even had platforming scenes, and let's no mention VR, but awesome moments of that caliber can be found on many action movies. I love the action in The Matrix, but what makes me having it as one of the best movies of all time is how well ancient relious references are intertwined with modern technology, to make a more compelling parable. The Wachowskis really did their research. If you take that away, I can see someone not liking the movie to the heights that has reached. Even though it is still a solid action movie without all that. That, and he probably didn't have a good sound system in his room. But the important thing Balder is that his number one is exactly the one that needs to be number one, so people can have a little bit of sense injected in them. I personally love the sequels, specially the 2nd. The first one was a better film, but I like the 2nd the most of the trilogy because of the heavy philosophical content. In terms of action it was still very cool, but the CGI was still too visible at the time. The first time I saw the scene where he grabs a post and plays Dynasty Warriors karate with all the Smith agents, was one of the coolest scenes I ever saw, I even liked that he had to escape, but coincidentally that scene also has one of the most notorious low quality CGI in film. They did better in the Chase H.Q. scene, except when Neo shows up like some sort of Superman. Something to consider though is that the action was important in these films. The 3rd movie had its Dragon Ball Z moments, but the rhythm of the action was lost trying to fit an ending to the philosophical aspects of the film, and that change of rhythm definitely affected it next to the other two. I imagine that's when you got all the angry soldiers wanting to see more action and less talk, and I don't blame them. By the way, I remember seeing on the news those moments where they would entertain soldiers overseas with concerts, stand up comedy, and movies. I always thought that was very cool, and it was always fun to see the reactions.
