Nintendo is going to start suing ROM sites

Emulators aren't illegal, but pretty sure distributing ROMs to millions of people is.

That is really fuck up. I hope they lose.

That sucks. While part of ROM sites is there for piracy reasons, a very large part of them is usually composed of rare games that aren't available anywhere anymore and that won't ever be released again because of legal shenanigans. Just think of all the licensed games (NES Batman, for example) that will probably never be sold legally again, or games like Panzer Dragoon Saga (released in less than 30,000 copies twenty years ago), or rare arcade games that would be completely unknown and lost to time if it wasn't for emulation (I'm thinking of Osman). A large part of gaming's history would be lost if ROM sites weren't making these old/rare releases available in any form.

In a way, I think of these sites like large public libraries - and, if it wasn't for them, I would have lost my interest in gaming (and its theory and history) during the 2000s and wouldn't be spending money with games nowadays. Maybe the much needed solution would be to establish laws regarding "abandonware" public availability or creating a public repository to preserve games (like the National Libraries), or maybe using an actually sane time period for an artistic product to become public domain (but Disney would never allow that).

One of the biggest sites, Emuparadise, is changing because of this, and it was because of this news that I commented here. It's sad because I've known many obscure games (some that I ended up buying later) through them.

This reminds me of the latest Super Bunnyhop video, about how gaming companies in Japan (especially Nintendo) go after even inoffensive game bars claiming copyright infringement:

Nintendo is a company that is stuck in the past. I am so sick and tired of seeing Nintendo taking out rom and emulator sites just because they can't stand emulation. Then if that wasn't bad enough they sue the people who host the rom and emulator sites. All we are trying to do is preserve games and Nintendo has to stick its big fat fucking dick into everything because they can't stand seeing anyone emulating there games. They shut down fan made projects all the time and a lot of these projects are years in the making. Then Nintendo comes in and shuts it down and all that hard work lost. But here's the thing try as much as you want Nintendo once it's on the internet its on there for good. People are going to play these games one way or another. All of Nintendo's efforts are futile because its the internet. Like I said once something is posted it is up there for good.

Nintendo is such a backwards ass company. Why people continue to support this company I have no idea, especially after all the stunts they pull all the time in regards to fan made projects or emulation. I wish they would just fuck off and leave stuff like this alone. I have a lot of emotions and thoughts about this because it's such a big issue.

Majority of nintendo games are vastly overrated. I like games like Pokemon and mario but even then I feel that they are overrated. Pokemon is pretty much always the same thing. Get a Pokemon, go on a journey, take down the gyms of the region and become champion. All while stopping a bad guy Pokemon team from whatever they are doing. Yes they might add different gameplay elements but the whole concept of the game is still the same thing as always.

I found Pokemon rom hacks to be more fun even if a lot of them aren't complete. As for zelda and mario I would rather play witcher 3 then zelda. Mario is still fun though and I like mario kart because that is fun to play with others.
