Is anyone thinking of getting one of these yet? I really want to be able to play my Nintendo 64 on an HD TV without spending $400.

Whoa this thing sounds boss. I’ve been wanting to play my Saturn on my main TV forever but the main options for doing that are ghastly expensive. I’m really tempted to pre order.

I mean, go get the OSSC and you'll never think about upscaling problems again.

By the way, I've been using a Lenkeng S-video/HDMI converter on my saturn for the last four years or so and it works greatly: absolutely no perceptible lag (and keep in mind I play shmups, 2d platformers and fighting games, so I would notice) and its image quality is really damn good, I would say it might even look better than the one shown in this video. Its only limitations are that it only has composite/s-video inputs (no component) and doesn't have any features like "smoothing" or the ones seen on framemeister and others (like resizing image or scanlines). But then, I bought it for around $50-60 at the time. It's one of these. (although this one is expensive and uses some weird australian plug, but you get the idea) This new one is still cool because of the component input; the smooth/antialiasing feature also doesn't look bad for 3d games.

That's a great solution. A lot of people will benefit from something like this.

This video just popped up in my feed for another cord. This seems to be better for 360 and PS3 gamers more than anything. The HDMI converter seems like a better deal for classic gamers.

Balder - Considering how expensive the OSSC is (albeit cheaper than the Framemeister), I find the lack of S-video and Composite inputs a major flaw.

I imagine what this would really work great for is if you have an early PS3 that can play both PS1 and 2 games. A lot of those games could really benefit from being smoothed out.

My guess is the kind of person who can shell out for one of these things can also she’ll out to get all their systems kitted out with SCART cables or RGB mods and stuff. The only two systems I’m interested in rigging up to my main TV are my Genesis and Saturn, and I have component solutions for those and I’m not too concerned about upsacling them to 720p or higher so the Retrotink sounds really ideal for me.

What's the point of an upscaler if you're going to use composite. Most modern TVs still supports composite. As for S-video, it's very niche if you ask me. If you're going the length for upgrading to S-video, just go all the way and go for component or RGB.

Balder - I'm mostly thinking of consoles like the N64, for which the only possible outputs are composite and s-video: for anything beyond that, you need to mod the console, something that not everyone is willing to do. I also think most early-80s consoles are restricted to composite. My point is just that there are uses for these inputs, so if you're selling a very expensive upscaler, you might as well go all the way to include them (especially if even the cheapest upscalers usually do). I mean, the one in the video does include them and is cheaper than an OSSC... EDIT: Although modern tvs still include composite inputs, they might introduce lag and tend to not look as good as going through an upscaler first.

I am in love with the HDMI mod for the Nintendo 64, but that price tag is insane. Plus, that's the price for the parts! I can tinker with systems and controllers a bit, but that has been deemed a job along the lines of an expert. Since I'm not in expert mode, that means that I have to pay double to get it done.
